Adding weight in a finished mbr tracker(McMillan)

I've got a finished mbr tracker with a rubber butt pad.I've got a 28 inch tube on it and it's too front heavy for my liking.is there a good diy solution to add more weight in the rear stock? My thinking is to carefully cut through the butt pad drill out a horizontal chamber and add lead shot.any other cost effective minimally invasive ideas?

Use a 7/8 brad point drill in butt under pad. depth of hole is up to you. cut some 3/4 copper pipe to fit depth of hole. fill pipe with molten lead, cool and insert. fits perfect in wood you can use a piece of electrical tape to tighten if loose. can be removed if needed. ;D

If you look carefully, there is probably two holes drilled in the rubber pad. The holes may have self healed in the rubber and needs a close up look to find them. Could be wood screws or machine screws. Myself, I like to use epoxied in threaded inserts and a machine screw to hold the pad on. Usethe method above with copper pipe and lead.

solid pachymar pad no holes...I think Ill try to remove the pad somehow and go to work on it that way.

You can also do the same thing with the melted lead using 3/4" metal electrical conduit. Might be a little less expensive.
You can get lead at any garage that installs tires. If you don't have a lead pot to melt it in, a metal coffee can, old kitchen pot, or metal bowl and a propane torch work too. Just be careful that there is not water anywhere near the lead!!!
I found that wrapping both ends with electrical tape gets the best fit.

Your butt pad is probable glued on and will need to be cut off with a bandsaw or the like. Be careful though as there is likely a brass spacer in there somewhere between the pad and stock.

I forgot to add that when you fill the pipe with the molten lead, make sure that the pipe is held upright and one opening on cement to keep the lead from running through.

I used an old 2x4 piece and drilled a hole to hold the conduit while I poured in the lead (they get REALLY hot!)

My mbr had expandable foam in the but if the stock, very light and had to be creative to get the lead to stay put.

Simple. Fill a mountainbike innertube with cast lead bullets, etc. wrap it around the butt tightly. ziptie it tight. Shoot, and adjust amount of lead to get her to track, as needed. Then someday add about that much lead in the butt. Seymour

If you have expandible foam, an option is to take it all out and fill the butt with sand rather than using lead. Measure how much sand you want and then double bag it in freezer bags before putting it in. If that's not enough weight, heavy sand is available (and I have some). --Jerry

You can knock off the pad yourself with a chisel. And bore it out and add weight to your hearts content. Glue a new pad on with a 5-min Epoxy and grind to fit with a belt sander.

Hunter,
If it not screwed in it is glued on. You need to be very carefull drilling into the foam in the butt. It is very soft, and can bust out the side of the stock. I had this done in Mcm. Hunter benchrest. I had a pipe of lead glued in place. The foam being soft the weight came loose. I removed the pad and inside form and epoxyed a 1" plastic pipe in filled it with lead shot mixed with sil. caulking. I epoxyed a place to screw on a new butt pad.
