Adding a sear adjustment to a Bergara trigger

This is my Bergara BMR rimfire that I added a sear adjustment to the trigger. It's nothing new or unique but the later Bergara's are a bit different from the early one if you're going to do this.

This is the hole in the sear block that you tap for the screw. This is a picture from the web as I didn't remove the side plates on mine.

On the earlier ones, the hole goes all the way through. On the later ones, like I have, the hole is a blind hole....so you have to drill it through. I used a 1/16" bit for this. Be careful not to ding up the trigger lever when the bit comes through. Most say to use a 4-40 tapped hole and go right into the existing hole with the tap. Checking mine with a pin gauge, this would have resulted in a really sloppy fit. A better choice was a 3.0X0.5 tap. A standard tap first followed by a bottoming tap. A wrap of Teflon tape around the new adjustment screw keeps it nice and secure but adjustable. You could also use a dab of clear nail polish once you get the weight where you want it.

The factory trigger would go to a bit over 2 lbs. at the lowest. With the adjustable sear, it will go as low as 8 oz. with about .015 of sear engagement and 10 oz with .020 sear. I set this one at 14 oz.

I did a B14-R heavy barreled action a while back and 1lb 8oz was as low as it would safely go. Put in a TT diamond instead.

Even at 8 oz, it passes the 'Tooley Tap Test'....whacking the bolt with a hammer.:D The internals are a nice fit side to side.
