Adding a powder plant to the primer plant in Arkansas...

Hey Fellers, just saw this on the local news here in Arkansas...,
John
That does sound like good news. The pic is pretty interesting itself. I assume those are blast berms around the buildings and an underground bunker as well.

What's surprising to me is the $60 million for the powder production.
While it's not something you could put on a credit card, it causes me to wonder - putting tinfoil conspiracies aside - why others haven't already started new powder facilities.

I read they want to start up making single based powders. That may
be a non starter with all the rules and regulations put in place here in
the US, that does not apply to ball powders. Nitro cellulose procurement
can be another issue for a start up. Sounds like a plan, although near
term does not look bright. I can only imagine Hodgdon following this ??

I'm wondering, do they make a specific and complete powder, or a singe base product that is used by another manufacturer or marketer for one of their powders?? jd

I guess the big question is will it even see the retail market, and they didn't mention anything about nitrocellulose purchase or mfgr. Maybe it'll help, maybe it won't. wait about 18mos or so and revisit it.

We will not see any of what they make. They are sending all of their primers to Australia and New Zealand. They are getting more $ from the wholesalers there than what we commercial customers are paying retail. The guy that owns it is a Czech national and it in it for the $. The only primers that were available were ones that customers did not send back to them when they changed the contracts and all retail stock was to be returned to them so they could send them overseas to get more $.

Yet these primers have been available here for months if not over a year and they're still available....? It doesn't make sense that what we have to buy is only what they didn't sell to overseas

I would think that they should be able to start a single base powder plant here if they can manage to produce it in Europe...they have many environmental regs there and A lot of those VV powders are REACH compliant

As long as they don’t end up in Chinese or Russian hands it should be a good thing for our supply.
