Add 3" wide "plate" to old benchrest stock

I have an OLD benchrest rig with a Weber action that I want to breathe some life into. It is currently a slow twist 22br (rechambered from a 219 DW) that I never shoot. It has a really great "set" trigger that is LIGHT when set. I was thinking of putting a fast twist dasher barrel on it and shooting 600 benchrest (informally) with it. The laminate stock's fore-end is almost 3" at one point put tapers toward the front, getting narrower - not conducive to good groups I'd imagine.

I was thinking of cutting off the bottom 1/4" - 1/2" of the stock for a few inches and add a 3" plate and paint the whole thing. What would the wise folks here recommend? I've read "Delrin" is a good product to use. Is there a source for a black 3" wide piece of delrin you'd recommend? How many inches long and how thick would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Whidden makes a 3in wide tracking plate. I think it goes on an anschultz or free land rail. Or Egw makes 1 that goes on a sling stud

The Whidden is great tracking plate and, as you said, mounts on a handstop rail. Sinclair Sells a very nice one that mounts on a sling stud, with side supports. Also very nice. I've used both to good effect.

Thanks for the replies.

If my stock doesn't have a rail or a sling stud what you guys use?

If it's a wood stock, use a piece of hardwood. You can probably pick up a walnut flooring sample big enough to cut/machine into the 3" wide forend. Or you can find a local hardwood store.

I would put the stock on the table saw set at 3/4" total depth from the top of stock (sideways). Slice back to about an inch from the front action bolt. Flip stock over and repeat, finish with a couple of passes with a hand saw.

Get a 3" wide piece of void free laminate. Glue into bottom of stock with a good 24 hour epoxy. Let dry.

Get some 1 1/4" fine screws and screw from bottom to top. Now its screwed and glued. Blend profile with bondo/devcon/wood putty. Let dry thoroughly. Sand. Paint.

I had a local furniture and cabinet maker cut me a 3" wide and 6" long piece of very hard maple that I glued and screwed to my Remington 40X stock. He sawed a small amount of the walnut Remington fore stock off parallel to the axis of the bore. The maple is 7/16ths thick and is flush with the point where it meats the fore stock. It extends about 1/8th inch in front of the original stock. After finishing the bag runner with spray on Spar Varnish and attaching it to the stock it is a nice contrast to the walnut of the rest of the stock. It tracked well but even better when I put some Sinclair Teflon stock tape on the bottom. I would think any hard wood or Delrin or even aluminum could be used.
