actual case diffences- 6mmbr Rem vs Norma

I know the answer is to just buy Lapua cases, but I've stumbled onto 250 Rem 6mmbr cases, and I'd like to use them. My chamber is a standard Kiff reamer, but with a .267 neck. Rifle is a barnard S, with a 28" 1-8" heavy contour. I'm not looking to shoot BR matches- more just general fun stuff.

Is there any real reason not to use the Rem brass? Is it actuaqlly undersized? if so, can I seat bullets long, to jam and fireform?

The Rem cases are shorter and have a larger flame hole. I use them for PD's, they work great!

thanks guys. Is the length difference in the neck, or body? Do you happen to have any idea how thick the necks tend to run?

Tonedaddy is correct and all of the difference is in the neck....... Sorry, I've never had the opportunity to actually measure the difference between Lapua/Norma & the original Rem. brass. with regard to neck wall thickness.

No worries- I'll check necks tonight. That's good news about the dimensions though. Now I have 250 extra "fun" cases!

What the heck my Sierra reloading book says and I quote Remington standardized the 6br case in 1989 the new case has a neck 0.040 longer than the original, making the maximum case length 1.560". Guns produced prior to 1989 require the cases to be trimmed 0.040. Is this true.

Inquire mind would like to know.

as stated most of the Remington cases that were headstamped 6mm Rem BR were 1.560" in length,,,,the original were headstamped 22 BR or Rem BR or not at all !!!,,,,,,the major diff is at the .200 line,,,,I am going from memory here (scary) but the Rem version is ~.003" smaller ,,,,so they will swell in a true Lapua (.471 at .200) chamber and the primer pokets will get loose quickly,,,,but you dont want to regress and get a reamer made to work with the old stuff !!!!!!!....I have fiddled with these since the early 70's and am thankfull that Lapua/Norma has improved the dims and produced ctg brass worth using ,,,,the old Remington stuff (and new Rem tooo) is some of the worst on the market,,,,IMHO<<<<Roger

Just a comment about Rem brass being really bad (I have had real issues with Rem 300 SAUM brass) but the last box of Lapua 6mmBR was half filled with brass headstamped R-P. Smile!!

Rem cases are just softer........

You will loose primer pockets faster. I left 2000 rem's that had been neck turned in a p. dog hole up in S. Dakota. If you find them, they are yours. The RCBS tool that removes the military crimp can tighten up the primer pockets as I am told.
