Action wrench

I have been known to change BBL's from time to time. Anyway, when I change tubes on Rem actions I like to use two wrenches 180 degrees apart to avoid torquing the action. The problem I run into is that on a long action 700 the wrench slides al the way to the tang area and there isn't room to put two 3/4 inch wrenches on the back of it unless you pull the action wrench out some. This takes the wrench out of the front of the action and I can actually feel the action "spring" a bit.

Anyone make a longer one?

The other option is to weld a second handle on a socket.

I've always used a Davidson port wrench for my 700's and Stolles.

I had one and it walked away. But I could still feel the action tourqing when trying to remove a stubborn factory. I was sending a friends gun to get a new tube chambered two years ago and I couldn't get it off. I simply cut all but 8 inches of the factory tube off with a chop saw and sent it to Greg. This shows how cheap i can be....I saved shipping costs because I could ship barreled action in a MUCH shorter box.

I don't have a long action handy, but this is inserted all the way to the front of the lugs on a shorty.

I made mine in the Bridgeport mill, it uses the whole length of the action not just the front lugs no flexing ...but ya have to use a slitting saw to cut a slit full length slot for the anti bind bolt feature in Remington actions. The milling machine also serves as a nice adjustable bench for height and clamping barrel vises, for barrel installation and removal.

i use a brownells barrel vise and receiver wrench that clamps to outside of action to get factory barrels off. never had a rem i couldnt get off. to torque the new barrel on i use a rear entry wrench that fits the raceway the whole length. havent had to put so much torque on it i feel the action flexing.

^^^^^^^^^ If I find a tough one that a rear entry won’t budge, I use the Wheeler action wrench on it.

This is the correct wrench.
It avoids putting torque on any part of the action except the front lug abutments.

I thought a t-handle and a socket was the companion for a rear entry wrench.
