Action selection help

I've got a Rem 700 .308 Win Remage that I built and it shoots well enough for me. However.. I want to upgrade the action on it as I also bought a .243 barrel that I want to use that action on...

I'm pretty sure the thread pitch is 1 1/6" x 16 TPI.. It's a McRee Precision barrel.

What decent actions can I get for UNDER $1000 that my 'old' .308 barrel will fit on?

Use a micrometer and measure the barrel OD it will be about 1.060" then put a thread pitch gauge over the thread...a pitch of 16 threads per inch will fit perfectly.
Up grade the action ....ya have to check with the manufacturers on what threads they put in their actions, quite a few use the same thread.
Or you could just true the Remington 700 action. I do my own, so it's free...just a little time to do it.
But ya don't have the prestige of a custom action, if that's important to you... look around, sometimes find a used one.

The odds that a barrel chambered for a 700 headspacing well on a custom action are not great.
That said you’ll love the feel of a good action.

Just picked it up.. Not sure I'm qualified to give a good review as the only thing I can reference it to is a stock Rem 700. It does seem the fit and finish are real nice. I put the barrel on, but didn't torque it, got it close using the go & no-go gauges.. installed the trigger.. and installed the barreled action on my KRG Whiskey 3, and all fit together well. With the FP and ejector out I cycled10 rounds through using the magazine (AICS). It was a little tight getting it to strip the next round, so maybe have to adjust the W3 a little for better fit. Plan to put it all together in the next day or so.

Good to know that the trigger hanger cleared well on your chassis. I had to gouge a smidge out. Have not even shot mine yet, but I think it will be wonderful.
 
Just got back with mine, the single shot is amazing! Coupled with a bartlein barrel it’s shooting lights out with mild break-in loads.
