Action screws, which one first?

Grimstod

Machinist, Designer, and Shooter.
Question.

You have your gun apart, it has two action screws that hold it into the stock. One in the back end at the tang the other up front right under the barrel.
So witch one do you tighten first? Or do you give each one turn at a time so they go down at about the same rate?

Insert both and snug them so that they barely tighten. Rap your but on the deck to seat your recoil lug. Tighten the forward one to 5-10 ft.Ibs. then the second the same. Tighten in small increments until each is as tight as you want them. If you use the Search function here you will come across a tutorial on using the action screws to tune your rifle to your load. It is written for a three screw action but works for two screw as well. I have been doing this for several years now with great success. Obtain an inch.Ib. torque wrench for repeatable accuracy.
Best of luck!

Thanks watercam tuning with your action screws is a totally new concept to me. I had never even heard of it. I will search the article. I already have a torque Rench but I can't get it under the scope for the rear one. May have to take of the scope

Found it here for those of you that may have the same question.

Will have to do it soon cause you can never have a gun that too accurate. lol 8)

Pictured in the above referenced site is a torque wrench. Looks like SEEKONO...

Anyone know anything about e. Ill google.

Anyone use one, source, price etc???

Thanks

Why would you have to remove the scope to tighten bedding screws or were you refering to scope blocks?

my torque wrench does not fit under it. Might have to barrow one of our smaller ones from work to tune my rig. I am very curoius to see how much this works.
Soon as this arctic ice age is over. :-[

I use this torque wrench for rifles:

Don't care for the cantilever style handle on those beam types.
I did find that, for some deep seated Remington rear action screws, it's necessary to find a longer bit than the Weaver kit provides. But that wasn't a big deal.

Here is the one I currently have.

and the scope is in the way here

for those who care, I had my Wheeler verified - just for shits and grins - and from 15 - 65 inch-lbs it never fluctuated more than 1 inch lb which is all you can interpolate to anyway - but great advice from all above - you MUST have a torque wrench if you are mounting actions, bases, or rings
