NEED ADVICE on choice of scope leveler and anti-cant device for 10/22

I am using a Clark Special 10/22 with a .920 SS barrel and a Simmons Classic Whitetail 6x20 classic scope for ground squirrels. I would like to check for proper scope levelling, using either an instrument that is easy to use, or Kentucky windage method that will work reasonably well. After the scope is level, I would like to mount an anti-cant leveler on the rifle.

I know that all my shots are usually within 50-100 yards, so (1) do I really need to go to the trouble to level the scope, other than "eyeballing" it for maximum level, and (2) since the shots are relatively short, would an anti-cant device be worth considering? If the answer is yes to either question, what method/device would you recommend, or should I just eyeball the scope for level and just shoot it without an anti-cant device like I have been doing?

Thanks,

Barry,
I have Anti-Cant devices on all my Target Rifles, Like you, I shoot mostly at 50 yds (.22's) and 100 yds for all other calibers. For me, the manufacturer of an Anti-Cant Device is irrelivant. It's the style I like the best that matters. By style, I mean whether the level sits above the scope, or off to side. I don't know what your regiment is in terms of target acquisition, so that to me would be the deciding factor of which style to use. Lately, I'm seeing all sorts of models of Anti-Cant devices and I've become accustomed to the levels being just above and centered on my scope. I just want to take a quick look ay the level without having to move my head very much once my check is on the stock before I go for final acquisition. I also slide by entire rifle forward to make contact with the butt stop on my shooting rest to make sure there is no more forward movement of the rifle before squeezing off the round. Just my thoughts.

Barry:

Like you I have a Clark built 10/22 and many others. Tried quite a few anti-cant devices and found only one that truely allows to keep my cheek weld while checking the level with my left eye before shooting (can reverse the device to shoot left handed). Harrel anti-cant is the one for me. Changing out all of my rifles to sport this one. The US Optics works, but is more expensive. When the bubble separates it takes forever to go back to a single bubble. It is moving in an oil bath and is much slower than others when responding to stock position changes.

The downsides to the Harrel device is that the mounting screws are positioned from below and one screw is shorter than the other so make sure they are not reversed when installing.
