My F-T/R rifle makes weight with a BAT M OCTPIC only because I have a March scope and an ultra-light McMillan stock. However I also use the same action for F-Open and have no problems making weight at 22# with a NF and a very heavy barrel. It is a superb action and it has plenty of port length for a 308 with the heaviest bullets seated well out in the neck. I would highly recommend it if you are not concerned about weight at all.

If weight is not a problem the BAT M action as Tony mentioned is a fantastic action, if weight is a problem the F class Panda is the route to go IMO.

+1 on the Panda if weight is an issue and you are building a 308.

Our current F-T/R FCNC shoots custom rifles with a Savage actions but I have not heard of those actions being used in long range BR shooting. Both the BAT and Panda can be had with long loading ports and dual ports which probably speed things up for BR shooting, especially with a long cartridge like a 308 with the bullets seated out, while speed is less of an issue in F-Class shooting.

forget the Stiller Viper, even though it's an amazing action your build wouldn't be done by 2020.

I have both Bat B and Kelbly Panda, both great actions and I can recommend both for .308 build.

and if weight is an issue you might take a look at the Stiller Predator, even though it's built as a tactical action it's still extremely well built and light weight all aluminum.

I have build several rifles on Stiller Predator actions and have yet to see one made from Aluminum. Vipers, Rattlers yes but Predators no.

you are absolutely right, I checked with a magnet.. just looked and felt like aluminum compared to my Bat B action, and so much lighter...

I'm looking for Bat M Action as weight was not my problem.

There are 2 type of Bat M Action. So, they need to specific inlet for each of them? What are the pro & con of each design?

• Bat M Round
• Bat M Multi-Flat

Seem like Bruno have many of Bat Action in stock.

Any Advantage when comparing between Bat 3 Lug VS Bat M Action?

In addition to the Round and Multi-flat, the M is also available in the M Octagonal with a recoil lug and a scope rail which are machined as part of the receiver. This model is called the M OCTPIC. I have one of these and one of the Round type which has a recoil lug and a scope rail which bolt to the receiver but are individual pieces. If you get the OCTPIC, get slightly higher scope rings because the integral scope rail sits slightly lower than the type that bolts onto the round receiver.

I'm looking from items that are currently available in stock at Bruno.

So, no need for waiting arond 6 months.

They only have Round and Multi-Flat.
So, which one is better?

Do they come with Thick Recoil Lug & 20 MOA Rail or I have to separate order those components?

The recoil lug on the Round M is on the bottom of the receiver in roughly the middle, not on the front like most actions. Bruno's usually says whether the scope rail is attached in the item description. It takes 10-11 months to get an OCTPIC. I think they make a special run occasionally because the piece they machine the receiver from is much bigger than the standard actions and probably requires a different setup on the tools.

Yeah. Very long period of waiting from factory thus why I decided to choose from Bruno shelf.

Seem like they only have Multi-Flat in stock with Right Bolt , Left Load , Right Eject.

That was exactly the port setup I would choose for the use you described. Some people on this site have been complaining that Bruno's doesn't answer their phones because there is so much demand for stuff right now. Sometimes, their internet inventory is out of date but they have always called me right away if I've ordered something that isn't actually in stock. That might be worth a try if you can't get through to them.

TonyR, what does FCNC mean? what Savage actions are you using in what caliber and for what yardage? I have a target action sitting here doing nothing, I wouldn't mind doing something down the road with it.

+1 on defiance there actions are excellent I have a deviant in a 6.5x47 and it is smooth as glass and shoots like champ
They are nice actions but be careful there bolts will rust on you, I have a good friend that had his in the safe all winter and when he pulled it out the bolt had rusted, none of his other custom actions rusted but the Defiance did, just a friendly heads up and yes he is very careful with his stuff, he is our number one shooter at our Montana 1000 yard club.

Sorry. FCNC=F-Class National Champion or Championship. You might also see FCWC which would refer to this year's F=Class World Championship, both of which are to be held at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM this August. F-Class is shot at 300, 500, 600, 800, 900, and 1000 yards in the US with a few places like Lodi WI and some of the European ranges offering out to 1200 yards. The distances up to 600 yards are considered Mid-Range and 800+ Long Range in F-Class.

I don't own a Savage F-Class gun but I have shot with people, including some of the very best, who do and they make excellent F-T/R rifles, in some cases right out of the box in the right hands. I have also seen some excellent F-Open rifles built on those actions in some of the smaller F-Open cartridges. So, F-Class would be one good place to put your action to good use. You can search this site and also the Daily Bulletin for articles about guns built on Savages.
