Action compatibility

Iv heard good things about howa actions for varmint guns and was wondering if any 1 new if the action for a remington has the same hole placement as a howa.

The only thing I know about Howa's is that they are metric threaded, which means that some gunsmiths won't touch them and others will charge extra to touch them. Don't sound that good to me.

I'm pretty sure that the hole spacing is differant but their are sevral good stocks out their for that action. The Howa action is a very good action to build on if you can find sombody that doesen't minde switching up the lathe if needed to thread metric threads. the action is actualy a bit more stiff than the rem 700 so a heavier barrel can be used with less worry about it stressing the action, the bolt is one piece with three evnt out the side of the bolt rather than one that vents into the mag in case of a ruptured primer, the bolt is already setup with a M-16 style extractor which is a better desgine than the crappy Rem stock unit or the Sako. Their are a few decient triggers out their should you need to go below the reasonably crisp 1.5 lbs that the factory unit can get to. Remington 700 Bases will work on it for scoping.

The Howa is a good action. Hart built a 25/300WSM,26" #4 fluted) for me and it is GREAT. I also had a 270WSM with a #5 Krieger done 2 years ago. It also shoots under .5" Apparently Hart and Krieger have no problems with these actions and they both commented that they are good actions that typically don't need much work. The Timney trigger is a good investment too!
