Kitsap, yes, passionate about my Rem bolt breakage problem and my desire to never experience another handle breakage, ever, BUT not turning my nose up or back on a 700 STYLE custom action, if I can be assured within reason they are SOLID, w/o being 1 piece. As to 6 vs 6.5, likely 6 would do 99.5% of what is needed, might be a bad angle or perhaps a big game hunt someday where I would want that extra .5mm and bullet weight that goes with it, energy/penetration, wound channel etc. Love the 6 for up to deer, but leaning to 6.5 for what it offers over and above, just in case I might want/need it in the field.
Catshooter, I can imagine the reaction when the competitor was forced, mid-shoot to quit! Can relate...that said I try to separate MY experience with a Remington with any other Rem styled action.
The results with those Win70, 1/4 to 1/3 moa is enough as I am not trying to win bench, but if spending good money expect to have very tight shooting gun to be happy.
Besides action choices, I guess TOTAL sum spent on a finished rifle is what I want to grasp, a Jewel trigger would be nice, not essential, but things like bottom metal and stock choices/work may come to more play as far as costs with custom vs Winchester etc for example.
Sure I am looking at 1200-1500 for a nice barreled Win or similar action put in a good stock, where as it goes up from there with custom depending.
If I build custom, I want TOP accuracy over and above Remington blue print as dependability I do not have to question, which a Winchester would give more than any Remington due to my experience. I just know if I ever go hunting in a remote area, having a handle break would make me more angry than a big bad grizzly! Fit to be tied if you can imagine
Thanks and love to hear from others, open to all opinions and experience regardless of where you stand in relation to my opinions/experience and comments.
Oh, as to that ammo consideration and the 260, really came to light today, my buddy called from airport at 630am, seems they would not let his 350 mag ammo, loaded with 225 partitions by me, go with him to Colorado on his elk hunt. His option now is buy 200gr factory Rem ammo in Colorado, which is not my top choice for elk-but I told him would do broadside lungs to 250-300 yds) or borrow another's rifle. SO yes, having factory ammo option leans to 260 vs x47 or 6BR, and as to the 708, love the round, but it comes back at me a tad more than I like when wanting to sit at the bench and punch paper or plink gongs/water jugs-etc; and barrel life considered as I won't be using it on prairie dogs, but again do like to punch paper and plink, can always rebarrel if needed but rather do it at 3-4k, not 2k. Thanks again.
