action/barrel vise bushings

I was going to make a vise and bushings just wondering if you would recomend completely split bushing,2 piece) or just slotted one piece bushings? thanks.

How about avoiding the question by using a vise that doesn't use bushings?

Where is the fun in that?
My vise will be SS with alum bushings, I think im going with 1 piece, that way i will never misplace the other half and I can always split them later if needed.

90 % of my bushings are 1 piece.
I would worry about the above jig not
contacting the barrel 360 degrees.
it would probably be OK with taking off
newly installed barrels but wonder about
some of the older take offs....

Good advice. I have always taken barrels off to chamber or rechamber. It was a lot easier for me and I must say I did hundreds. Some of the older militaries were really tough and with the barrel not contoured 360 degrees it raised the dickens with marring and some had to be tossed. It slipped/gouged too much to suit me so I came up with my own. Never had any more troubles but added 1 foot to the wrench handle. Just my .02. The vise never slipped again

I make barrel bushings from 1.5" dia Aluminum rod.

I hack saw
I drill
I boring bar
I hack saw
I file

I like two piece for skinny tapered barrels ,)
I like one piece for fat straight barrels C

The biggest problem with two piece and getting them picked out of the pile.
