i was looking at the 7mm remington magnum that bobby hart has in a 40 degree improved version it is stated that there is a 100 to 150 fps increase velocity given i would assum a 26 inch barrel over the standard case.what are your thoughts on this.

Heavy for caliber bullets are where you will typically see the benefit of more raw horsepower. fwiw.

A 280AI will run right with a 7 mag up to about 168 gr bullets but after that, the extra capacity of the 7 mag starts to show off...for example.

28 Nosler and 7mm PRC are fast if you want speed. Both have more capacity than the 7 Mag yet both still work in the same length action.

I hear the 7mm SAUM Ackley Improved is no slouch when it comes to speed either if you want something more compact

You'll need to open up the bolt head though.
In your case, you'd get more over your improved 7mm Rem Mag with a 7mm-375 Ruger.
I've been thinking of going the other direction with a 284-350 (or 7mm-350).

Re-chamber to 7STW if you want more speed. You will need a Rem 700 magnum action though, so you can fit the rounds in the mag.

The 7mm Rem Mag. will do anything you need it to do. If you are after a bit more speed, I would sooner turn to another powder rather than "improve" an already exceptional case. I have used RL-26 in a few chamberings. It will give you at least 100f.p.s. above say H4831sc, which is an EXCELLENT powder for the 7mm Rem. Mag. It is a shade slower than IMR 7828 and a shade faster than H1000.. It is a perfect mate for the 7mm Rem Mag and 175 class bullets.. Use it for hunting in cooler temps as it is just a bit temp sensitive. There are easier ways to gain 100f.p.s. with today's powders, rather than changing the case.

The 7mm Rem Mag is not, and never was, loaded to its full potential from the factory. There’s another 100 FPS to be had without reaching dangerous pressures.
