Ackley Krag in a P14 action

Looking for experience with any full-length Krag AI in a Pattern 14 rifle. Doesn’t matter if it’s 6mm, .25, .30 cal. Mostly interested in how well (or not) the improved Krag cartridge feeds from the P14 magazine. I really appreciate any input from folks who have done such a combo. Thanks!

I've not done your exact conversion, but have built a bunch of magnum chamberings on 14's. Being that the 303 and the krag are relatively similar it should feed without issue. Using the 14 mag would be useful here too.

This would be one of the few instances where modification of the feed rails isn't necessary.

Ive got a p-14 in 219 wasp and 330-30 ackley feeds ok but for real accuracy you want to use it singleshot . Use the 303 mag and follower youll be fine

In September I converted a Mosin Nagant to 25 Krag Ackley, by opening up the feed lips in the receiver.
In October I shot a buck with it.

Depends on who made the P14. They vary. One BSA I had fed beautifully in 303, OK in 30/40, but not great in 303 Epps which is similar to the 30/40 AI. WH

It’s a Remington action. I recall reading about the Epps cartridges in Ackley’s books but don’t recall details. How did the Epps design differ for PO’s?

Not a lot of difference, really. Both have minimal body taper and a sharp shoulder. Epps' shoulder is 45 degrees. The 303 has a shorter neck than does the 30/40 so the shoulder is not moved forward as much in forming. The 303 Epps ends up with a couple of grains less capacity than a 30/06 while the 30/40 AI ends up with a couple more. Performance-wise, the three cases are pretty well the same. The rimmed cartridges seem to be able to handle high pressures better than rimless.
Currently, I do have a 303 Epps (on a Ruger No. 1) but do not have a 30/40 AI. I do have the standard cartridges built as target rifles. The 303 on a modified P14 and 30/40's on a Prairie Gun Works action and on a Ruger 77 single shot. Both cartridges, in standard configuration, can easily drive 180 grain bullets to 2700 fps. The improved versions will manage 2850. A real hot rodder can probably get more but I'n happy to match hot 30/06 levels. WH
