There is still one and only one AI in my mind. It stands for ACKLEY IMPROVED, no artificial intelligence.Wouldn't it be nice if they'd called it the Improved Ackley so people would always discuss .223IA rather than the abbreviation now coopted by the blight on humanity of AI. And poor Albert et al who go by AL but with the typical lower case L it shows up as the blight. Sad for them both.
No doubt about it A I is right along side of "let's get it done better" It is the only reason I own a .260 period. If you have any sense about firearms, You know what AI stands for!
and how do you Improve on a Ackley? "IA"
260 period ? I’ll have to look into that one Uncle BillNo doubt about it A I is right along side of "let's get it done better" It is the only reason I own a .260 period.
It's because I and l look the same although one is capital i and the other is lowercase L. So the commonly used Al for Albert/Alfred looks identical to AI for blight on society. And yes, Bureau of Land Management was also coopted and shamefully. I imagine others were as well. There is still one and only one AI in my mind. It stands for ACKLEY IMPROVED, no artificial intelligence.
Not sure how you associate "AI" with "AL"? Not only is that short fort Albert or Alfred it is the USPS abbreviation for the great State of Alabama. ROLL TIDE!!!!!
I never worry bout naps. They just happen!I worry about more important things like should I take a nap or not.. LOL
It's in there somewhere. LOL.260 period ? I’ll have to look into that one Uncle Bill![]()
That is a very enviable experienceI had the pleasure of visiting Ackley at his shop several times. He told me one time he had so many young guys come out of gunsmithing school want to train under him, do a year; and then walk away to start their own shop. Then list prominently "Trained by PO Ackley" and turn out junk. Their customers would often contact Ackley and expect him to fix things. At no charge since "you trained him, you fix it free...".
Ackley finally trained his daughter, and put her to work in his shop doing the less complex aspects of many jobs.
She was a very prim and proper young lady, surprisingly for the daughter of a man with Ackley's somewhat colorful language.
He and his contemporaries like Atkinson&Marquart (A&M barrels), and Buhmiller (he used to let me bunk out on a cot in his shop and then sit up and talk until Midnight), and so many others from the late 1970's until about 2010.
