case length for ackley improved cases

What is the general concensus for trimming brass on ackley improved type cases? My .243 AI cases have been reloaded several times but don't come close to maximum lenghts, which means they probably never will. Although they shoot fine, can anything be gained by trimming them all to the same length? Some of the cases are ten thousandths different.

What disciplines are you shooting with your AI? and at what distance's?

I am picking up my 243 AI tomorrow so am keen to understand a little more about your issue? What brass did you start out with and how long are the cases now? For the std 243 Win that I have just sold, I was trimming to 2.037 inches. I plan to use Lapua brass and I am going to try and pick a factory load that works well and use that fire formed brass too.

FWIW i take the new case, fire form them, check the lengths after sizing in the AI dies.

get a length that is "consistant" trim all to that length to get them uniform- call that trim length.

The add.010 to that length and trim when they grow by .010" beyond the "trim length"

I never trim before fireforming, unlesss there are cases with a obvious out of square mouths (hasn't happened yet).
I do however request my chamber length be no longer than .015 over the average length of fired brass, and I CHECK ALL MY CHAMBERS WITH A sINCLAIR CHAMBER LENGTH GAGE ($7).
