accurtrigger inconsistency

I took the accutrigger blade off my new Model 12 BR
Savage
and the trigger adjusted down to about 6 ozs., and
I was pleased for a factory trigger.. Just when groups had gotten
in the 1/3 MOA range,6BR) the trigger started getting lighter and
slam fired a couple of times. This rifle is my 200 yd factory class
gun and can bring home some wood again if the blasted trigger would hold
adjustment and not get lighter during use.. Hope someone can offer
idea to stop this. Match one week from today 8-29-09.. I don't have the
accutrigger adjustment tool, I just use a small screw driver..
I will get a new Evolution trigger from SSS but not enough time now..
advice needed and thanks
Doc Stone

PS- It's now at 6 ozs. but getting lighter every shot

Apparently not an uncommon problem with the Target AccuTrigger. I have two Savages with the Target AccuTrigger that can be very frustrating. I have re-adjusted the trigger on the older rifle several times. If I adjust the pull to 10-12 oz it will hold - for a couple of hundred rounds - then will sometimes start un-cocking when closing the bolt. I have been told that the Target AccuTrigger needs a ' break-in ' period. If so, I'm not quite there yet. I've considered aftermarket triggers, but other issues have kept me from going that route. Good Luck, Vic

You need an internal screwdriver to adjust this trigger. I turned mine all the way in to 2.5 LBS and don't have a problem.
Try some removeable locktite once you adjust it where you want.

In Mausers, you can grind off some metal from the trigger.
If too much is ground off, you can weld some back on :)
