Accurate reloading data for 165 grain nosler ballistic tip

Hey guys I have a 300 win mag in Remington sps camp with muzzle break .. I'm working up a few loads right now but I tried imr4350 powder and imr4831 using large rifle primers.. I can not get this gun to shoot very well.. I am reloading 165 nosler ballistic tips . Any suggestions? And what loads would you recommend out of each one of those powders?

You might want to try a magnum primer in this case. I can't say a standard large primer can't work. I just haven't tried it. I use F215M primers in my 300WM loads. IMR4350 beat IMR4831 in my rifles. RL22 better yet. Also the ballistic tip and accubond bullets like to be jumped in my rifles. .025 is a good place to start. Hope this helps.

Guys this is a new member and is a friend of mine. I have been pounding on him about reloading techniques and brass prep. I hope some of u guys can chime in and stress brass prep and a few advanced reloading techniques to make him a believer that accuracy is deeper than a charge weight. Also he is shooting an SPS with that camo tupperware stock.

1hole, i will try

Ryan i have been shooting the 300sm with 165 since 1973 with accurcy in the .300-.400's

--so here is what i do.
bbl is free floated, action is glass bedded from tang to 2 inch in front of the recoil lug, recoil lug is snub fit but does not bottom on bedding,
action screws are clear and do not touch inside of stock in hole up to action - tighten the screws uniformly and do no troque one more than the other, put finger at front of stock under the bbl and if bbl moves with screw "in-out' rebed
brass is R/P sorted to =/- .5 gr, flash holes cleaned trim to length before weigh
RP 91/2 primers
h4831
seat bullets to jump .020-,=.030 for my chamber throat, do not touch or jam
i adjust the trigger to a maximum of 3 lb and crisp, if it will not hold that i replace it with one that will

these cases head space on the belt, so do not over size or push the shoulder back more than .003" there are gages available to check this and the bullet seating/jump

what type of accuracy are you currently getting. and what are expecting the rifle to do. just because a person reloads and takes pain staking measures to ensure everything is consistent does not guarantee a factory rifle out of the box will shoot. I own several remingtons and all shoot well but it is always after I spend time working on the rifle like the above post stated. my morally procedure for any new Remington is to install a timney trigger, bed the action, lap the scope rings and float and clean the barrel then I start the break in process then start looking for accuracy loads.

Thanks for the advice guys ...right now I'm getting inconsistent 1.5 groups with the gun.. I'm not looking for a 1000 yard shooter just something that will be more consistent.. I bought it for hunting.. I can put 3 dead on center with a .25" group and then the next two will be 2" at 9 or 2" at 3 clock .. I was loading large rifle primers with the 4831 I'm current working up magnum primers with 72grains of imr4831 nosler ballistic tips

Ryan that sounds more like bedding shift, loose scope, or shooter recoil response.

The 3-9 swing can be created by change in cheek pressure, right hand grip change and trigger finger position on the trigger itself.

consider shooting 3 shots, as this is a high recoil rifle and as a hunter you aint going to get 5 off.

work on consistance of cheek, shoulder, hand pressure and if you are shootiin off bags positon of foreend on the front bag, as well as sling screw on rear bag.

Ya just went to the range with 165 ballistic tips with 72 grains of imr4831 with magnum primers.. Gun shot all over the place.. The recoil is not an issue since the guns recoil is about the same as a 270.. I don't think this gun likes the 165 grain.. I'm gunna try a load of 180 ssts and see where they shoot.. This gun does not shoot anywhere near my savage 116 bear hunter 338 win mag

Totally agree- this is MASS-produced gun with a flexy stock and no special efforts put into the bedding.
The two Remmies I have luckily did shoot but I consider myself fortunate.

I def wouldn't be blaming the chosen projectile at this point

I have spoken over and over to him about the cheap tupperware stock. I recommended buying a Boyds for $100 and shoot it. I have been Stressing the importance of brass prep (flash holes, primer pockets, trimming, run out, seating depth, keeping lots of brass specific to one gun). Basic handloads are only going to produce minimal accuracy .

I had extensive experience with a .300 Win. Mag.. I usually shot 180gr. bullets... However, powders have many and varied characteristics. IMR 4350 is at "the fast end" of slow burning powders. IMR 4831 is only a tad bit slower. BOTH of those powders were designed for use in large cases using "light for caliber" bullets. The 165gr is on the "light-side" but not too light. It is on the border of getting into heavy hunting bullets for most game.. Many hunters start at 165grs for Elk and the like. The BEST powders for a .300 Win with bullets in the 165 to 180 grain range are H4831 and RL-22 bar none. If you go heavier than that, say to the 200 yard range, then H1000 and even Retumbo are the best. So if you are staying with 165gr bullets, go with H4831 first, then try RL-22>>>you will be satisfied with the results>>>also a Win. Mag primer or Fed 215's will be needed to PROPERLY ignite 70+grs of powder.
