We rebarreled both of my brothers 223 rifles before the 2025 trip. He ordered the barrels from Shaw, both in 223 even though I encouraged him to turn one of them into a 17 Fireball. Not one of our better years on dog numbers but still good.
Not going to go to heavier bullets, the 50gr neighborhood has always worked for us. They are cheap and shoot minute of PD. Shooting 2-3 hundred rounds a day, the heavy's would not be pleasant.
The only 50's I shoot are in my 222 which is a dream machine but I shoot more 17 cal in the form of Hornet and Fireball. I put a Fireball together for our partner in crime and he loves it but had the opportunity to buy a CZ 527 in 223 so that is getting rebarreled and chambered in 17 Fireball and my brother is buying the original Fireball from him.
I just finished rechambering my Ruger 77VT Swift to fire 22BR because that rifle had become a safe queen. Looking forward to having her back in the PD fields with less powder and less recoil. Working on loads for it now.
