Accuracy load for 6/250

Mine with an 8 twist pac-nor prefers MR-2000 with light bullets

What weight "light bullets"? Mine likes, to a degree, Bart'68 gr flat base and Sierra 70 hpbt match, once I get a longer throat I'm hoping 88 flat base or Bart's 80 grain dominator will show off. Stay tuned.

That is weird, a fast twist and a short free bore. They won't keyhole because of the fat twist but if you get those little puppies fast enough they may blow up... jim
Rifle was made 12-15 years ago as a switch barrel. I surmise at,the time the longer and heavier 6mm bullets hadn't caught on yet. Just a guess, but looking at reamers to rent, the freebore I had seemed standard. Thus, we'll try to throat it.

Sounds like somebody trying to save a buck on the reamer, one size fits all... Get a uni throater from PTG. ..... jim

Back then you had the Sierra, some Bergers, the Hornady tipped bullets and some JLKs if you were lucky, or not depending on how they were made. All were about 105-108 grains. Bergers could be had in 90s.

I go back way past that, and nobody would have a short free bore in a 7.5 twist, in fact you never say 8 twist in a 6mm bore. 9 was the norm even Remington with the 9 1/8 to 1 was throated for 100 gr. and that was 40- 50 years ago..... We were pulling 173's out of Lake City Match and replacing them with 168 SMK.... Mexican match..LoL... that was in the 60's...... jim

I chamberd a 8 twist Kreiger in 6/250 in 2001 or 2002. On a Model 70 For OTC shooting. Shoots great with just about everything I shoot in it.

Back then Tubb was harping on his 6X where the 243 was just run in short. I thought that was a wholly wrong approach on multiple levels so I looked for something similar. The 6 International was lacking in capacity and velocity plus the caseforming chore would be horrendous. So that left the 6/250. Built one and it or one of its modern iterations is the best medium cartridge for OTC.

Back when I shot XTC, it was 30's M70 were match rifles, M1 and M14's were your gas guns. the 16's were just getting started. You had recoil to deal with, no 6mm at all in the 60's.... Now the very small attendance you don't have stand to sitting or prone and you have scopes. It sure has changed... Remember the 6br was formed from 308's back in 1963 and the 6 br was in a factory Remington in 1978... that was maybe before your time... jim

At the time of chambering (2008) I was told the round was referred to as a 6/250 National Match (NM). As it was built as a single shot I've no idea why the throat is so short. Thanks for your comments

Not hardly before my tim. I started shooting Highpower in ‘67. On and off til 82. Still have most of the guns I shot way back then in one form or another. I had a short job at Remington in Ilion way back when. Met Jim Stekl originator of the BR line. It came after the PPC.

It may have came to Remington after the PPC. but the BR was chambered in rifles in 1978. But the BR case was developed in the the early 60's made from 308 case.... When did Remington ever chamber the PPC in a Rifle?.... jim

well,,,I have shot a BR since the mid 70's,,,dont remember the exact year,,,but to the best of my knowledge BR's were developed because of the popularity/success of the PPC,,,at the beginning they were all 22's,,then the 6mm's became the cal of choice as better bullets were developed thanks to Allie Euber-Ed Watson-Jeff Fowler,,I was one of the bozo's who made the ctgs from basic brass ,,,it was terrible,,like aluminum,,very brittle,,but soldierd on,,just my fuzzy recolection of the history of BR as I remember it,,,Roger

It was around before the PPC. by 10 years. It could be made it out of Lake City brass in the 60's. Granted it was crude, compared to today. The brass was annealed better than the stuff today, I necked a 308 down to 6mm and back up to 358 and it never cracked. It never caught on because they were using light bullets and it had too much case capacity. The same as the way Rem. did, Now with heavier bullets in 6mm they shine. Then the 30's in the case and they are equal to the PPC. or better if you can stand the recoil in a light gun.... jim
