Accuracy international in 6.5x47 report!!!

Well i have started on my second lot of 123 scenars, 1000 count boxes,,,,

The rifle is shooting like a houes on fire!!!!!
The load that i have used for most of my shooting has been 38.6 grain,s of rel 15,,,
And i have only had five cases with loose primer pockets,, The case,s are on there 13 reload,???
Some of the cases i use for foxing with 95 grain b/tips, that is why some cases are on there 13 reload,,,
As Laurie has said,, i have won a fair few comps with this rifle,, And only last week i shot a 3oo yrd group of .477 to win small group patch,,

Not sure how long the barrel will last?? But hey, just go out and enjoy it,,,,,

Mine will only group with 38.6 rel15 and a cci450 primer????
Due to the short supply of rel15,, I am going to try this weekend some varget,, As this powder is sold in one gunshop close to my home and it is cheaper to buy???
Got loads for 4350 but it will not get up to the same velocity as the rel 15
I have herd that rel17 is a bit of a throat burner??, But lets face it they all are???

I have found that the 6.5x47 does like to run fast,,, I did at one time try and run it at 2,7??
but the accuracy was not there,, But bring it back up to 2950 or 3000 and it would give me bug hole groups,,,

I have worked all of my drop data out over the last nine months orso,
And all i can say is that it has been a pleasure to shoot,,,

Thank you for your kined words,, It has been a very enjoyable learning curve with this calibre,,
I think now that my 308 barrel will never go back on,,,, As i intend to order a replacment barrel as soon as this one bites the dust,,
It really is that good,,
I can shoot f/class, benchrest, and any other comp that i fancy enterring and i can go out in the fields foxing and long range varminting,,

My first five shots from a .308 AI rifle, from a bipod in the dust & dirt at 100 yards went into one hole... Was shooting Federal 168 gr match ammo. Those first few shots convinced me of the level of accuracy these rifles routinely deliver. It wasn't even my rifle!

My comment, all in good fun, was something like "I didn't know the Brits could build a good rifle." ;D

That brought a roar of laughter from the Canadian contingent at our little rifle shooting group. All of whom were of course shooting Accuracy International .308's...

Apparently your 6.5 version shoots at least as well. That takes a good marksman too, no matter how good the ammo and rifle. One of these days I may well re-barrel my old beat-up Remington with something other than a .308 Win, and a 6.5 is high on the list.

I have a similar setup to yourself, an Accuracy International AW in 6.5x47 Lapua, and I'm having issues with primer cratering / piercing.

Are you experiencing similar?

I'm currently running 140gn Berger vld projectiles over a charge of 38.5gn of RL17. They are seated -0.005" off the lands.

This seems a very modest load compared to that of other forum members, and I suspect that the pierced primers are due to the firing pin hole in the bolt face being (relatively) large to allow for reliably ignition in harsh conditions.

Yes matey mine also has primer cratering,, To be honest it is a trait of the large firing pin on the ai aw rifles,, They can be bushed but to be honest you would be wasting your money,,, I am now upto 1250 rounds with this barrel and it has not been a problem, Dont worry just go and enjoy your shooting,,

What i will say is that i get fantasic results with cci 450 primers,,,
