acceptable spread in fps for shooting out to 1000

In ALL my loads, whether for 300 or 1000, I try for under 15 e.s.>>>I REALLY strive to get under 12>>>most times I can get inside 9-12f.p.s. On my 6mmBR I actually have an e.s. of 6f.p.s. If you really work at it, you will normally be able to get inside 15f.p.s. Many times it is less than that.. However, I am retired and can take the time to get to my "goals"...

My testing has shown, every 10 fps with my dasher, shooting a hybrid at 3030 fps is worth 1.5'' of vertical at 1k.

I've been playing around with ballistic apps and when I enter the amax bullet at 2850 then 2800 it shows a 30" drop. I realize 50fps is a lot but I didn't realize the drop would be so great. I don't want to plan a weekend to shoot out to 1000 if I'm just lobbing bullets up not hitting anything. I guess 100 accuracy may not be the most important factor. as some of my tightest groups at 100 have higher spreads. everytime you think you have a good handle on this sport u realize more challenges.

Primers and case prep along with the right powder Good Shooting Larry

I loaded 10 each of 5 different powder charges. case prep, primer and bullet all the same. powder charges all thrown with the chargemaster. spreads vary a ton from powder to powder. so just having the right powder cut my spread in half.

What primers are you using and how are the seated that is the whole secret. For me and my guns which are savage I find Wolf the best second is federal and for me cci is the worst. I normal can keep the SD under 3 . I do not use a hand primer. Remember guns are like woman. Good Shooting Larry

30gr. varget Wolf SRM primer and Hornady 105 A-Max. My 1000yd. load for 6br.

WOLF??? But how consistent are they from lot to lot??? Very interesting.

Federal Match are hard to beat IMO, but I have never tried WOLF.

I had to knock back from 30g of varget to 29.8 with cci400 primers.

I can't tell you on lot to lot but I have tried other lots from a friend and I couldn't see the difference on the target. Good Shooting Larry
