Acceptable PRS rig?

Would a Savage 10T 6.5 Creedmoor (24" threaded varmint weight bbl) in an HS Precision stock with Accurate Mag Bottom metal added on to it https://accurate-mag.com/shop/bottom-metals/savage-short-action-bottom-metal-kit/ and a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25X56 be an acceptable first timers rig for PRS matches? I would not be a serious competitor, but just do it for the experience/fun. Like most average working men, I don't have deep enough pockets or enough spare time to get serious about PRS. They have a fairly local range/club (less than 2 hours from where I live) that puts on a couple little less serious matches for newbies to try out that style of shooting/competition and I may want to try one. Pic of the rifle I'm about to receive from another member here who sold it to me. Thanks for any/all input.

That will definitely work for your first time out. The rounder bottom profile of the chassis isn’t ideal but it won’t hold you back.

Make sure you have a 10 round mag as a bare minimum. Some stages are 12 rounds now, but you could single feed the last two. I’d pick up a short action precision 2 round holder to stick on the side. They’re cheap, removable and almost universally used by PRS folks.

The only other thing I’d suggest is putting a brake on. Positional shooting a brake matters a lot for staying on target and spotting your own impacts and misses.

If the gun likes 130gr class bullets, those are often better than 140-150 because the go faster, less recoil, and you don’t need that additional BC on most shots. But shoot what the gun likes.

Got a front and rear bag? Guys will let you borrow if not, not a big deal.

Go have fun!

I do have a brake for this rifle and I will probably order the accurate mag bottom metal/trigger guard with a 10 round magazine for this rifle. I'll look into the 2 round holder. Thanks.

Yup that will work to get you out and shooting. As mentioned you want at least a 10 round mag set up and something that takes AICS mags is preferable as it's what most use so if mag issues or you forget them you can use other people's mags. I have loaned out mags in the past.

A good brake is also a huge plus. The PVA Jet 4 would be a good choice. I use one on a couple rifles and it cuts recoil very well and also sends blast more away from the shooter.

How is the trigger on the rifle?

For bags, a good rear bag is needed for prone or off certain obstacles. Also a front bag like a Game Changer or War Horse bag is a HUGE help. Most stages I use my game changer. As mentioned though you can go and talk to shooters and borrow gear to see what works for you.

Just get out and shoot and it will help you more than anything learn what you need to help you shoot better.

Keep it fun.. I am a once every couple months prs wannabe. I have limited equipment but pretty thick skin.. I make some poor decisions and forget plenty but it's some of the most fun i have had with a precision rifle.. Don't get too worked up at the silly mistakes, just laugh them off and keep it fun.. Lots of good guys in that world that will loan, help, coach, give out free pointers and just generally nice folks.. Keep shooting sports alive and have fun...

Where are you from IA_shooter? PM me if you like. That combo will work fine. From SW Iowa, shoot a fair amount of PRS and can help get you rolling possibly

That will work just fine. Really don't need super fancy equipment in PRS to be competitive and have fun. It's much more about the shooter than the equipment, especially compared to F-class or BR, for example, where equipment plays a bigger role in your competitiveness.

Update. I did use that gun I was talking about in a PRS match this summer and had fun and actually shot pretty decent. Pic of me at that match.....

Last week I ran across a deal I couldn't pass up on a still NIB Savage 10 GRS model in 6.5 CM and after handling that chassis/stock and cycling some rounds through the action I knew it would be an even better gun for some fun/PRS shooting. That GRS Berserk stock/chassis is so comfortable in the hand and makes the rifle balance out so nicely. I just mounted the scope on her yesterday and all I need now is a good brake for it and can't wait to get her dialed in with some load development. :D I hope to shoot a match with it @ Sure Shot range yet this Fall sometime.

Not sure I need to do any load development after all. :) Here's how the ammo I had loaded for my other Savage 6.5 CM shot through this new one. I was just using that ammo up for sight in/break in and after doing the typical shoot/clean, shoot/clean for almost 20 rounds while getting it sighted in and broken in I thought I'd see how well it would shoot. They are both Savage 10's with 24" barrels and I guess they both like the same load.
