Acceptable Group size

I fully understand the concept of bug hole groups, but what would be considered the largest acceptable group size at 100 yards for PD hunt.

I know what size M.O.WC is but how much smaller is M.O.PD. Will mid .5 and under make it or am I going to have to do more tuning.

I'd say it depends on the cartridge. Mid 5 for one of the big boomers is great but the 22s and 6mms should go into less at 100 yards. At the longest distance you will be shooting, say, 400 yards, that will probably end up more like .75 to 1 MOA which is enough for a miss. Of course, I also have an unusual philosophy about PD guns. If you hit EVERY one you aim at, it gets boring. Sometimes missing is good. Makes you pay more attention to the wind, yardage, and stuff like that which makes you a better shooter. JMHO

Tom,
My personal standard for any of my custom varmint rifles is a five shot group that measures < 3/8" outside edge to outside edge @200 meters. That is what I strive for and all of my varmint rigs meet that qualification. By using this standard, a single ragged hole @100 meters is a gurantee, provided the wind co-operates. For factory varmint rigs, I strive for < 1/2" outside edge to outside edge @100 meters.

I think I can make that. I several loads that will make it under .4 at 100. The problem is the best critter getter I have is an old ppc that moves 55 b-tip over 3500 fps and groups <.3. On a fair day it will eat clay birds at 560 yds. But I only have 60 pcs of brass. Not enough for a PD hunt. Going to have to concentrate on my 6br.

I too have a 6PPC PD gun. 26 inch Kreiger. I shoot the Berger 60 grain MEF at 3550 and, as you know, it will shoot little dots at 100 yards. I only have about 200 cases for it and I don't shoot it a lot. If you want to get more brass for yours, go by a Benchrest match in your area and ask around. There are many shooters who save their old brass and at times you can buy a coffee can full for just a few bucks. The neck wall thickness may vary but I've found that for a PD gun it doesn't make that much difference.

No local shoots till summer at thats 200 miles away. But I just sent an E-mail to a Smith that shoots BR. He may be able to help. I think you had a good Idea.
