I had a fellow officer text me last week and he had picked up some CCI small pistol, he said they were $7 per 100 here in NC. He said 4 was the limit.

In my somewhat limited experience, even the counter dudes have no clue. But, they usually have an ego that's all out of proportion to their skillset.

Being penny wise will get you places. Time and patience is your friend.
