Abm ammo

Hi Bryan,

What is the minimum freebore spec to shoot your .308 win 185gr Berger Match Juggernaut Ammo

Because seem like this ammo load COAL at 2.950"

I'm currently ordering a custom rifle for shoot in FTR and I plan to shoot with your ammo. So, the gunsmith ask chamber spec for proper ammo.

What mv should be expected out of 32" Bartlein 5R Barrel with your ammo?

Thanks,

I've shot some ABM ammo loaded with 185 Juggernauts out of a chamber that was cut using the 2013 US FTR reamer spec. It shot pretty well, showing signs of being around .5 MOA at 100 yards. Well enough that I would use it, if I did not want to reload. I can't say how competitive it would be with only 10 shots, but it showed signs of being pretty decent.

What is the expected mv when to shoot ABM ammo out of 30-32" barrel?

They only specific 2,628 fps out of 24" barrel.

I shoot the 185 Juggernaut out of a chamber that has .085" freebore. The boattail/bearing surface junction is just barely above the neck/shoulder junction when loaded at .015" off the lands (2.898" COAL). This is certainly not optimal in terms of freebore and results in increased pressure, but it's not an incredibly hot load (2720 fps), so it works ok. Based off those measurements, you would need a minimum freebore of ~0.137" to have 185s loaded at 2.950" COAL be about .015" off the lands. However, there is plenty of room to move them out further. Dave Kiff at PTG makes a reamer optimized for the 185 Juggernaut that has 0.168" freebore. The 185 Juggernaut is very forgiving with regard to seating depth and a lot of people seat them at .015"-.020" off the lands, or even more. If you're not loading your own and the COAL is really 2.950", a good estimate would be a minimum freebore of ~0.142" would be needed to have them .020" off the lands. Hope that helps.

Many thanks for your kindly answer.

The I believe .150 - .170" freebore would be suitable for those ammo.

Generally expect 15-25 fps change per inch of barrel... so best guess somewhere between 2700-2750, which should be plenty competitive in terms of wind drift.

FWIW, I've seen Sam from ABM shoot one of the 'shop mules' @ Ben Avery a couple times using some of their ammo... didn't do to shabby!

At the SWN and FCN Sam shot very well using ABM Ammo. In fact I coached Sam during the team match at last year's long range regional before nationals to a 197-9X using ABM Ammo.
