ABC Barrels

Anthony and I had a long conversation this morning and got everything taken care of.
He was very apologetic in the fact it unfortunately slipped through the cracks.
The manner in which he has taken care of this proves how much he cares about his product and his reputation for customer service.
He went so far as to contact a customer who was to receive a barrel this week and ask if he minded moving his order back a couple weeks allowing him to ship me the barrel today.
He didn't mention who it was but if they read this a big thanks to him.
Unfortunately I am OCD when it comes to communication especially when it comes to spending money on a product or having work done.
He's got some great things in the works which will put him way out front in the barrel making business.
I'm sure I'll be very happy with the barrel and I'm so sure I ordered 2 more today.
Thanks again Anthony ! @oliver88

Thanks for the forthright follow-up.
No real surprise on the customer service, but very important to ensure the archives properly reflect how the matter was handled.
Please keep us informed on how it shoots.

I ordered a barrel from Anthony and didnt receive it for an extended period of time. To be fair i didnt followup with him at all and forgot about it. then one day Anthony called me and said he was sorry and insisted i take the barrel no charge. He is a class act and wants to do the right thing. Im sure he has many times more work to do than he can get done by himself and something has to give. He is working very hard and I want to say Thank you Anthony

Does he sell contoured blanks ready to thread & chamber. The big question, how are his prices?
ABC does sell contoured blanks. Until recently his prices were below the better known names in barrel making. I have encouraged him to have a price increase to bring his prices in line with the others but have no idea if he has done so. I believe you will find his prices the same or less than the others.

I usually don't post much on here and I try to keep a low profile but I felt that I needed to answer some questions.

Just a little bit about American Barrel Company.

Back in 2010 I bought some WWII Pratt & Whitney machines but it didn’t take me long to realize that if I was going to compete in today’s world—I couldn’t do it with yesterday’s technology. I sold the Pratt’s and set out on a three year mission to find the most accurate machines available. I tested machines from several machine manufacturers and I decided to go with Kays Engineering from Marshall Missouri because they were the most accurate and buying American is important to me.

I took delivery of the machines in 2015 and by 2016 I was able to make some barrels worth testing. I did have to give some of my first barrels away just to get someone to try them. The late Mike Niblett was the first person to win a match with one of my barrels and that meant the world to me.

I have invested my life savings and I have been working 14-16 hours per day since 2015 with the goal of making the best possible barrels. I am still operating as a one man shop because my county has some very silly zoning rules that are restricting me. I am also one of the few barrel makers that are lapping out everything by hand without some type of mechanized lapper to rough lap. Lapping is by far my biggest time consumer but it makes or breaks the barrel and it must be done correctly.

Unfortunately, I can’t always get things done as fast as you guys would like and sometimes I have tooling issues. I do a different type of rifling than the other button barrel makers and it is very difficult to make compared to the typical 6 groove button barrel. My 4 groove barrels are basically the same dimensions as most cut barrel makers and they shoot really well.

I don’t have a website and I don’t really advertise.

For now my barrels cost $325 + $25 shipping UPS for up to 3 barrels shipped together. I don’t do credit cards. I don't take money up front for non fluted regular contours.

I make these barrels: 28” 30” 32”

30 Caliber 10, 11, 17.5 twist 4 groove

6.5mm 8 twist 5 groove

6mm 8, 12, 14 twist 4 groove

22 CF 7, 14 twist 4 groove

MY lead times are running up to 5 months

If you call during the day just leave a message and I try to return calls in the evening.20150601_103950.jpg 20150601_105241.jpg 20150601_100132.jpg

ABC barrels are finished well enough on the outside right out of the package, to use as is. I have one New 22 14 twist FS in the classifieds. The first one that I bought and used was absolutely FLAWLESS inside. No wonder they shoot so well.
This barrel is FS because I had to quit shooting, and for no other reason. LDS

I'm reluctant to say this because a compliment for one maker is sometimes taken as a slight of another. It should not be.
I've been in the business of barrel chambering for 20 years and have seen barrel makers come and go as well as seen them be at the top of the mountain at times, then not so much at other times. Sometimes that may be due to a barrel lapper changing jobs or at times, the steel that they rely on. Nevertheless, we are blessed with many very good barrel makers right now.
I don't give out this compliment lightly at all.... I think Anthony has raised the bar even higher and is making the best barrels that we've ever seen in this game. Not that you can't win or get a very excellent barrel from one of the other top shelf barrel makers, but ABC is now my barrel of choice for good reason. I was honored to have him ask me to help with initial testing of his barrels. The only barrel that I tested for him that I would label as average was his first one! From that point on, every single one has been exceptional. They are the straightest and best lapped barrels I've ever seen from any maker, as well as being the most consistent and uniform from end to end. I'd like to have a way to check twist uniformity but it would only serve as a confirmation to me of what is apparent... as the targets are what matters and all of the barrels I've had from him have shot superbly!

He is a good guy to work with and is making the best of the best in the barrel market, imho. I think if you haven't tried one for yourself, you're only shorting yourself. If you get the chance, scope one next to any other barrel and see what you think. Chamber one up, yourself, where applicable....and see what you think. Then go shoot it and....see what you think.

I believe you'll be impressed with every aspect of his barrels. ---Mike Ezell

Thanks for putting this post out there Anthony-- I sure hope you are successful to the max

Holy Cow Mike I think Anthonys lead time just doubled after this thread--He sure deserves all the business he can handle.

I have one of his barrels on my 6 br, most accurate barrel i have had , the barrel will group at 100 and 200 right along with my 6ppc, excellent workman ship, brings back that name that we have forgotten about .
