AB Quantum Major Update 3.2

We are pleased to announce a significant update to our flagship platform, AB Quantum™, featuring powerful new capabilities such as Weapon Employment Zone Analysis (WEZ), Custom Drag Factor (CDF), and expanded compatibility with Kestrel® 5700/5700X LiNK models. With a long-standing reputation for innovation in long-range shooting, we continue to advance the field with this release. More than a routine upgrade, this update delivers a significant leap forward in ballistic technology, offering shooters enhanced information regarding precision and increased connectivity to products within the Applied Ballistics ecosystem. It may take up to 3 days for all users to access the new features.

When our initial truing capabilities were introduced in 2012, reliable and accurate chronographs were not as readily available as they are today. As a result, we adopted the "true muzzle velocity (MV) first" policy that has guided our practices for the past twelve years. However, with the emergence of advanced Doppler radar-based chronographs, such as the Garmin Xero C1, Labradar and Speedtracker, precise muzzle velocity measurements have become far more accessible.

Given the ability to measure MV accurately, there is now less necessity for MV truing, and any discrepancies in the ballistic solution are likely attributable to other factors. As such, the updated truing policy introduces three options for truing drop data: MV Truing, Custom Drag Factor (CDF) Scaling, and Drop Scale Factor (DSF). By providing these expanded options, shooters can now choose the optimal truing method for their ballistic solution, regardless of the support equipment available to them.

Truing Options:

When you initiate the truing for the first time, all three options are available: MV Truing, CDF Truing, and DSF Truing. However, after the initial truing process, subsequent truing at extended ranges should be limited to DSF. This is because DSF is the only method that can be defined in a piecewise manner without disrupting previous calibrations. Guidance for Truing Selection

We offer two levels of guidance to assist you in selecting the appropriate truing variable:
  • General Guidance: Choose to true the variable in which you have the least confidence.
  • Detailed Guidance:
    • Select MV Truing only if you do not have access to an accurate (Doppler) chronograph during the truing process.
    • If you have an accurate chronograph but are not using a bullet from the library, or if you have not verified scope tracking, DSF should be selected.
    • If you have an accurate chronograph and are using a bullet from the library but have not verified scope tracking, DSF is recommended.
    • If you have an accurate chronograph and are not using a bullet from the library but have verified scope tracking, DSF remains the appropriate option.
    • Only if all three conditions—accurate chronograph, bullet from the library, and verified scope tracking—are met should you opt for Drag Function Scaling.

I don’t see inputs for assumed precision or target size for hit probability. Am I missing something? Hit probability can’t be calculated without these inputs.

Excited about the WEZ feature. Went through the Manual and watched the video's. It's great to see what changes impact Accuracy. I'm having one issue though I'm hoping someone can help me. Temperature seem's to dominate my WEZ. Even when I have all my Confidence factors to Zero (wish there was a reset option). Even when I have my temp/wind down to zero my Vertical uncertainty is always huge...like 26 MOA. And my Horizontal Uncertainty looks off too. Even when I have zero Temperature it shows up as a major uncertainty contributer. What could I be missing?

My Simple thinking was make all the variables zero then see what impact each one has independently???

Also, It would be nice if the Confidence factors were saved independently for each profile. That way I can profile different guns.

TIA

In this case I would try:

1) Delete the app
2) Restart the phone
3) Reinstall the app

This will reset everything for you. This clears the cache out.

I just saw the "how to connect to a Kestrel 5700" video, and it says to "capture the target direction" on the 5700.

I have been using the 5700 and the Kestrel Link app on my iphone to shoot prairie dogs for several years, and want to possibly use the Quantum app because the HUD is easier to see the Windage & Elevation solution.

I have mounted the 5700 on an extendable post vane mount on my rotary table, and I had previously captured the "direction of fire" on the Link app running on my iphone by touching the DOF button, as I have my iphone locked parallel with the gun direction, so when I can see the target through the scope, the iphone is directed at the target.

So I cannot reach the Direction of fire on the 5700 up on the mount as I swivel the table to a different target, and I need to set the direction of fire for each prairie dog each time, so how do I set the target direction on the Quantum app on my iphone?

Would it be to switch to Target, and get the "azimuth" input from my iphone as the target direction?

Help me understand your WEZ outputs, specifically windage. My example cartridge is a 147 eldm with a .350 g7 and mv of 2930fps. With any calculator the extreme spread in horizontal at 800(just an example) due do a 1mph wind change is .4 moa. Even with all confidences at zero except the wind wez still shows an extreme spread in horizontal of over 2.5 moa.

I have no idea why it didn't alert me to this message.

I would honestly recommend reading Accuracy and Precision for long range shooting. It breaks down a ton of the WEZ stuff in finite detail and how it works. How to use it. WEZ essentially has an entire user manual the size of a book to really grasp it in and out.

I own it and have read it. It does not explain how the windage is outside the tolerance stack of the inputs. You should not get a simulation outputting a poi that is outside the combination of max rifle precision and extreme spread of the horizontal caused by wind.
