A smerf died in my 243

I think if it is a good barrel, it won't copper with any bullet. Matt
Well I guess all the major barrel makers that recommend a certain cleaning technique for copper removal must not be producing any 'good' barrels? Even 'good' barrels will copper some with soft jackets. Some worse than others. I asked since he has had no copper issues prior, I thought it might be a bullet issue. Especially after 200 rounds with no cleaning..

I bet most bullets are made with about the same copper alloy. usually the barrel (unless it is rough) is not what causes copper fouling. It is usually the throat that causes most of it. When breaking in a barrel you are smoothing out the small grooves made by the chamber reamer. That is why they recommend cleaning between shots. If you let the copper there it just builds up and doesn't smooth the throat. Matt
