A rule question ?

Would it be illegal in match to have a small battery powered fan pulling heat out a vent? So not to push it out in front of the scope to create mirage..

I see guys with fans blowing across the barrel at williamsport, but I think if you vented it underneath and had a small battery powered fan pulling the heat away you would have something...

I don't know of any such rule in short range BR. As long as the fan isn't attached to the rifle thereby rendering the rifle over the weight limit, it shouldn't cause a problem at all. You aren't considering a Rolls-Royce Merlin to power the fan are you?

Weight is the biggest concern for an "add on" to a gun. If it was part of the stock then you would have to battery power it. It would be very innovative and cool idea. Venting out the hot air to prevent mirage. If I had time to tinker with it I would try it just to say I did it. I do think it would raise eyebrows at any F class comp though.

One of the moderators on Socamo is tinkering with a liquid cooled gun. Just for fun.
