A Question About Case Fill

I may be mistaken, but does it not make sense that an identical weight on say a powder like CFE-223 will take up less volume than Varget or similar?
Yes, powder density and shape are two different aspects of a powder. Ball powders due to the nature of their shape will always take less volume per grain than extruded powders. So a max load of 25 gns of CFE-223 may only take up 2/3's the case space as the same weight of Varget. Which is why I switched from Varget to CFE-223 when loading 80gn A-Max's in my 223.

I just tried the electric toothbrush trick. Works like a charm, better than a drop tube. I can now load 58 gr of 7977 in my 25-06 cases and not crunch the chit outa it loading a bullet. Thanks Mike

When running close to full, how a case if filled can have a major effect. I did this experiment with the same case and the same charge of powder, the same exact granules. In the case where the case overflowed, I had set it on a piece of paper so that I could recover all of the powder that fell out of the case.
