A pre64 mod70 rework

A good friend that has a gunshop called and said he wanted me to pick up a receiver that I bought.I knew nothing about it and told him so. We argued back and forth and I went home with it. Well I started looking for a bolt, bottom metal;, trigger, bolt release, and everything that I would need to make a complete receiver. Wow! The parts were not "cheap". One of our forum members had a couple bolts and misc. bottom metal parts at a very very fair price. I visited with Jim Wisner who a lot of us believe is the guru of the pre64 mod70s. Jim manufactures parts for the mod70s. He made an exact replica bolt release, found the correct bottom metal, did the trigger and slick and crisp it happens to be. Another member and a good friend had a decent factory stock for it.Another member here put me in touch with a fellow that had a bunch of take off barrels. I bought a 243 barrel from him that was the same year "1956" of my receiver. Jim said he could headspace the barrel and clock it properly, BUT!!! So I gave him the go ahead. Several years ago he made several bolt noses to repair blown up ones. He cut the nose off of mine and replaced it with one of his inorder to restore factory headspace and to clock it properly. A lot of work, but I didn't want to cut a thread off and do it that way.

Looks awesome Butch :)

Waiting for the rest of the story and what you’ll end up with in the end.
Thanks Bill, Jim will send me a complete barreled action to put in the stock that Joe gave me. Yeah, it will need to be blued and though the stock looks good, it will get a new finish.

Jim Wisner called and said that he was bluing the last of June and to send it back. So when I get it today it will be sent back to Jim. I never thought to ask him when he had the metal work.

Butch,
Just curious as to how he attached the new bolt head? Looks to be very clean and one would never know it was done. Very nice!
