A new message from Federal

You believe there is someone buying ammo from an ammo manufacturer that told Walmart they couldn't have any ammo?

That is exactly correct.

Soooo... someone explain this... Walmart has standard ammo orders. Every year. Year after year. From every major manufacturer. This year... hunting season came and went... nothing... from anyone. Not hoarding. From HOARDING the pallets and pallets and pallets of ammo that would arrive at every store would have to be snapped up from "greedy" people right? Well.... has anyone heard of their Walmart getting PALLET AND PALLETS of hunting ammo??? Anyone? I haven't. Oklahoma saw not a single mass shipment of hunting shotgun shells. Stores that normally receive dozens of PALLETS of shotgun shells, received NONE... Normally EVERY STORE would get a dozen pallets of dove loads. Every store man... You are literally talking millions of rounds.

Walmart has STANDING ORDERS made in the year before... long term contracts. That is how they get the retail muscle they get. They commit to long term amounts.

Man.... people had better start thinking... Seriously.

I am seeing a ton of ammo everywhere. Just insanely expensive. $70 a box for 6.5CM? No thanks. Kind of loses it’s appeal as an off the shelf shooter.
Dunhams opened a new store here.. Went to see what was what there. Yeah insane ammo prices. They had a ton of #41 5.56 primers at $11 a box of 100. Needless to say that had a bunch. One can of powder left, a bunch of SR magnum primers. Ammo prices sky high/. Box of 22 Mag CCI hp's was $22. I buy em when they have em at another place fo $12/box. Didn't buy anything and will just move on.

The three Wal-Marts I shop at here in northern Utah have not had rifle/pistol ammo for at least six months. Did see some shot shells before the bird season started.

Been wondering a little bit about the shotgun shell situation. I didn’t run across any cases of dove loads this season. First time I ever saw that. Troubling…..

I've walked into the same Walmart on Tuesday mornings for the last three weeks. The guy at the counter told me that's the morning their shipment for ammo comes in. Every Tuesday morning the shelves are full of .243, .308, .30-06, .270, 7mm Rem, .300 Winchester, etc. By Wednesday morning, I'll wander in to see what is left. The last three weeks there have been only one or two boxes left at a time.

I don't remember in years past the hunting ammo selling that fast, nor did that Walmart get "pallets and pallets" of hunting ammo. I've never heard of them getting a dozen pallets of dove loads. But I did see whole pallets at a time brought out...and the local Walmart has yet to run out of birdshot loads this entire time. I don't know what is happening where you are, but either you're showing up at the wrong time or perhaps there is a management problem.

The truth is people are buying every round they can find. Talking to the local gun shop owner, they sell virtually every round of ammo they get in common calibers usually within two days of getting them. They limit to two boxes.

There is no grand conspiracy.

My take on the message...

"For the commercial market".

Meaning loaded ammo.
And i have been seeing ammo on store shelves.
$37 for box of 20 in 223 Rem. Ditto 38 Special. $42 box of 357 Mag.

But some of the typical hunting calibers (270Win for example) are not to be found.

What he didn't say was " for the reloader".

Well during this and the last shortage, the ammo companies would release to distribution and then the distributors and large sellers started to Jack up the prices. Cheaper than Dirt and others gouged. So I see this “direct selling” as an anti-gouging action,
They are selling at the price of my local academy when they actually have any CCI.... Just a few months ago CCI was cheaper than academy.... I need some velociters , I keep some for defense rounds for .22lr and the only way to get them is direct from CCI but when you add shipping , ouch.... I noticed even CCI has listed their wait times are getting longer , so people are paying $50 a brick for standard velocity...

Here in central Texas academy is running $21 a box for 9mm fmj and around $13 for 5.56 and it's staying on the shelves and their getting alot in... No .243 but a bunch of 150gr .308 it's crazy what's there and what's not... Sometimes primers LP LMR last time at $70 a box.. They had some SP SR the other day but I just couldn't bring myself to buy because I just don't need them.... I believe by doing that it's the only way to turn this around , unfortunately others don't and they were gone fast....

I saw Natchez had Federal blue box primers the other month.
Other than that, i haven't seen Federal primers in about a year.
Much less their match primers.

CCI's regular primers i've run accross here & there. But usually available by the 100 packet. And limit of 2.

"Record numbers"...

But these guys say I'm a conspiracy theorist...

Hope your not shooting a 30/30 or a 243 :-(
