Living here in Nevada we have a more than average need for a long range rifle/scope combination. When I bought my 6.5 PRC Browning X-Bolt Pro mountain rifle I wanted a light(er) scope.
BUT I also wanted FFP, mil/mil turrets/reticle, side focus and at least a 30 mm tube. My eye was drawn to the SIG Tango 6 in 3 - 18 x 44 tie the very nice LevelPlex level-indicating reticle.
I got it and it was an ANCHOR! Yeah, I forgot to read the 38 oz. weight. So I sent it back to Optics Planet and bought the very nice Bushnell LRTS 4.5 - 18 x 44 with illuminated G3 reticle. (It's a small "Xmas tree" reticle)
At 28 oz it's about 6 oz. more than I wanted but it had everything else in my checklist including great quality. It's also, at 14 inches, longer by 2 inches than I wanted but it's no deal breaker. Bushnell used fewer lenses to keep weight down and thus the longer tube. It has no bad effect on optical performance and if fact with fewer lenses bending the light it likely has a better effect.
->Why did I want an FFP reticle? So I could use my range finding binoculars at any magnification.
->Why mil/mil turrets/reticle? Because that's what I'm familiar with in my competition scope.
->Why a Christmas tree reticle? For accurate windage holds, like my H59 competition reticle.
->Why illuminated reticle? So I can see it against a dark background. (forest, clouds, rocks)
->Why a 30 mm main tube? For strength. It's why aluminum bike frames are so thick - strength.
Given all my checklist items the KRTS fitted it best within my budget.
