A little help please

My friend is shooting some reloads from his buddy. .223 in a DPMS AR-15. He has a number of FTF's,failure to feed) so bad in fact that it is extremely difficult to extract the round. They are done on a Dillon 650.
I took the rounds home, pulled bullets and powder. Tried to resize on with RCBS sb die that I set to a case sized to specs. The cases seemed to not touch the shoulder in the die. By that I mean that there was no "felt" sizing. I am wondering if the shoulders were set back too much in his buddies die and therefore will not chamber.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Ron

Sounds like to big of a chamber in the other rifle, big reason to not shoot loads that didn't come from your rifle if thats what happened.
A case that was sized with the shoulder set back to far should still chamber unless it's
to fat at the base.

Could be a few things with the feed mechanism too.
But if his brass was full length resized I don't know if you would feel anything.
Maybe try some factory ammo to make sure there isn't a feeding/ extracting issue.
DPMS along with RRA should have wilde chambers, longer throat).
also check for possible choked gas tube.
edit,
Ah I see failure to feed, they might not have been full length resized or maybe used 5.56 instead of 223, there are slight differences, but the dpms should have chambered it, but again try the other things I mentioned as well.

Here is another thing I forgot to mention. small base dies for semi autos. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=469170
I had to look when I got home at my die set for my ar. I have hornady dies for my bolt gun, but I have this small base full length die for my ar.
If your buddy was using brass from even another ar and you resized it it may even still be "long" or "fat" using regular full length dies.
Also check case length, if the neck is long it won't chamber, but if the base end is still "fat" it won't chamber either.
Also check for proper setup on the die that it is fully resizing.
hope this helps.

Thanks for the input...His chamber is .223 I do not know if his friend is using a sb die. I do, and it was the die I used to try to resize his brass. Length is within specs. I would think that not setting back the shoulder enough would cause this problem, as the round would index higher on the shoulder and not allow chambering. if it were set back too far, then I would think it would chamber but cause a high pressure issue. we are still trying to resolve this.
I guess that if it were not full length resized the same FTF would happen as the case would be too "fat" at the base.

Yep, you have to full length resize, with small base die) for ar's.
other than for my pistols that's the only thing I use a progressive type reload press for. But for my slow fire where I will single load only like for f-class I will use a single stage and set the bullet just to clear the lands which is not mag length in a wilde chamber.
I will also use my rcbs electronic digital powder measure/scale for my slow fire ammo and bolt gun ammo.
