A little confused over F Class targets

If I were to attend a 300 yard F Class match in the US, what would be the target? I believe it to be MR 63 FC. But that is different from ICFRA targets. Are these used in the US? What about 600 yards?

At the moment I just intend to compete with myself a little but I noticed the difference when using my Shotmarker at 300 yards today. I had purchased a bunch of MR 63 FC target faces to have something realistic to aim at.

At my range I can only shoot to 500 yards but it would be fun to 'simulate' a match with 20 shots at 300, 20 at 400 and 20 at 500. (I absolutely understand that a day competing with oneself doesn't replicate match pressure but it's likely decent practice.) I couldn't find how long one has to shoot the 20 rounds in a 'slow' fire match...

(I was just fire forming brass today and it was the first time I had shot my new rifle at 300 yards. My 20 rounds scored 13 Xs and 7 10s on the MR 63 FC target in attractive conditions and so I've still got a lot of practice to do!)

The NRA rule book says that the 300 yard F Class target is the MR63FCA. I have no idea what the "A" stands for. Slow fire matches are typically 1 minute per shot so 20 shots for record and 2 sighters would normally be 22 minutes. Unlimited sighter is often longer depending upon how the match sponsor wrote the program but usually extra time is given.

When we compete in ICFRA matches we shoot on ICFRA targets, But those matches her fired under the ICFRA rules not under NRA rules. When we shoot in NRA competition we shoot NRA targets.

Ok

I assume most (if not all) club matches I might attend would be NRA and so, for now, I should just ignore ICFRA. I'll carry on!

Can I follow up with a question relating to "F Class Classification"?

Rulebook says:

19.5.2 Courses of Fire Used for Mid-Range F-Class Classification

300 Yards
Target: MR-63/wMR-63FC, slow fire, 20 shots, prone

500 Yards
Target: MR-65/wMR-65FC, slow fire, 20 shots, prone

600 Yards
Target: MR-1/wMR-1FC, slow fire, 20 shots, prone

19.15 Individual F-Class Averages - Competitors classified or reclassified on the basis of scores fired under the conditions specified in Rule 19.4 reduced to 10 shot averages, those averages leading to classifications as shown in Table III below:

Table III
Individual F-Class
High Master................................................ 98.00 and above
Master............................................................ 96.50 to 97.99
Expert ............................................................ 94.00 to 96.49
Sharpshooter.................................................. 91.50 to 93.99
Marksman......................................................... Below 91.49

I don't follow how "reduced to 10 shot averages" is implemented/computed. Also, I assume from reading these that there are just "Long Range and "Mid Range" classifications rather than classifications at each individual range. Is this correct? That is, one has to prove themselves at 300/500/600 yards and earn a Mid-Range classification rather than earning a "300 yard" classification.

EDIT: I just read another thread which I believe confirms my understanding of the last question. I also understand now that one needs to achieve the levels over two registered days. My presumption is that if you achieve it but, for example, your next outing is a disaster you get demoted etc.

Are Xs and 10s counted the same?

Don’t worry about classifications yet just go shoot and have fun. About the only time classifications really matter is at a large national championship sized match to get you into the same relay with the people you’re competing against on day one.

you only get moved down in classification if you requested and I believe you can only do that once

your classification is calculated over a given number of shots I think your initial classification is 220 and to re-classify as 110. The numbers are in the rules. They don’t pull those numbers out of a match though if a match exceeds the total that you need your percentage is calculated based on the match total.

The NRA does classifications for mid range which is everything 600 yards in less and long range which is everything longer than 600 yards there is no classification for the individual ranges.

Xs = 10 for score, classification is based on scoring

Thanks. Were competitions available closer to where I live I'd definitely turn up to watch and, possibly with a little more practice, participate. But the closest is about 3 hours drive away which, with 8am event starts, means o/n accommodation etc. Hence practicing by myself for a bit. I do intend to enquire as to whether we can get some NRA ratified matches (or even just casual matches) at my range. The limitation, however, is 500 yards - and the propensity for range management to have an interest in organizing and supervising a match. (I live in Miami and my local range, Homestead Training Center, is a commercial operation.)

F Class has its own set of rules at the back of the rule book. Classification for mid range and long range are separate and classification is done with 120 rounds.

"Reduced to 10 shot averages" is simpler than it sounds. The average score for the purpose of classification is based on a 100 point scale. Every shot has a maximum of 10 points, so a 100 point scale would be based on 10 shots. In F-Class, all strings are 20 shots, and most if not all matches are 3 strings, or 60 shots. So if you take your average match score (say a 575 average), to reduce that average to a 10 shot average, simply divide the average by 6 to get an average per 10 shot string (575/6 = 95.83). In this example, that average would qualify the shooter for a classification of Expert.
