I just wanted to give a quick shout out to James at Northland Shooters Supply and Brad at The @urbanrifleman. From James, I got an Origin action (almost 3 years ago now and 2500 rounds of 7mm08 later down 2 of his Criterion shouldered prefit barrels) and for this Christmas a new Criterion shouldered prefit in 6 BRA (272 neck, 0.120" freebore). From Brad, also for Christmas, I got one of his Revolution Bench Rest stocks. Add to that a TriggerTech Diamond, an Arken Gen1 EP-5, and a tuner that I made. It took minimum effort to get the recoil lug to fit, and I opened the barrel channel to 1.35" all the way down. The original barrel channel cleared a dollar bill all the way, but I like more room.
I bore sighted at the range - lined up bore with target center, then moved turrets to match the POA. First clean, cold bore shot was at 9 o'clock less than 2" off. Second shot a half inch closer. Adjusted sights and put 2 shots through the same hole! From there I did a powder charge sweep with some unsorted Berger 105 Hybrids. ALL groups were under 1/2"!
The following week I did a powder charge sweep with some slightly sorted Sierra 107 MKs. These bullets were super consistent out of the box, except a couple that were slightly lighter than the average, and 80+% fell within 0.1 gr. I used the lighter bullets to foul and warm up the barrel. Except for the first cold bore shot, I had 2, consecutive 3-shot groups in the 1's. Same charge with the heavier sorted bullets, and they opened up a bit. I tried to measure every way I could, but couldn't figure out what was special about the "lighter" 107 SMKs.
Can't wait to really start dialing in a load.
Thanks for some great products and support here.
