A Keeper?

In my mind if you can not see white it scores up...a 10. Speaking of plugs why did all the various rifle caliber scoring plugs go away. The overlay with a globe is a sure way to get influenced scoring, maybe that's why it came about. Plug with a magnifier made it easy.

Oh, I see where I made my misjudgement, the green outer ring is considered the beginning of the 10 ring, not the inner edge. 10, and excellent shooting!

Back in the old days when we shot BR 50. There were several sayings about scoring.

First off: BR 50 was named "The meanest game in town."

Sayings:

1. This ain't baseball, tie does not go to the runner.
2. When in doubt it is out.

And still today we actually destroy the evidence before making the determination as to how it scores.

When that plug gets inserted one can make a great difference on how the bull is scored.

Only if you try to. I disagree with you. I watch overlays get centered, and I use the term loosely, and shake my head. When in doubt is out is an excuse . What is important is 1 person scores so every target is evaluated the same way. If the plug is properly inserted in a PROPERLY SUPPORTED target it will be guided correctly. It also helps with a good backboard not a hunk of shot up mine belting. If you don't have the fortitude to make the call because your afraid someone will complain, don't score. DOUBT is a cop out. Scoring is not easy but requires confidence, not doubt.

You can fine .177 and .22 , .38 and .45 plugs with magnifier but nothing else that I can fiend such as 6mm, 6.5mm, and so on.

Relax. I was just relaying some old thinking on scoring BR 50 targets. I don't know if you have ever scored any of them.

These sayings were created by the guy that invented BR 50. Larry Brown. I suspect he used these saying to get across his point of keeping the scoring hard and living up to the moniker of being the meanest game in town.

Don't think it had anything to do with having confidence, I think he wanted to set the tone of looking for those shots that are out rather than trying to make them all in.

With that said if you look at enough scored targets you will soon see mistakes are made. Even the math can be wrong at times. Recognition of this is the rules for protesting targets.

May as well take this to another level and discuss protesting rules.

In ARA one is allowed to protest their own targets and have them rescored.

IR 50/50 rules allows any competitor to protest any target of any competitor and have it rescored.

Big difference!

For years I hated the IR 50/50 rule. It seemed to me that only the winners' targets were subjected to this extra review which I didn't think was fair. But finally, I had it explained to me.

The IR 50/50 inventor (s) thought allowing anyone to protest any target would ensure there was no brother-in-law scoring. Everything is up for public review and challenge.

You can agree with it or not, but I'll bet you don't get either organization to change their rules.

I definitely understand how the score plug could/can be manipulated on close shots to be either in or out. Also, under the rules, isn't the plug only allowed to be used once on a single bullet hole, to keep it from wallowing out?

Tony, yes mistakes are made. I have made them. I have had guys bring me a target and say would you look at this again. Some times I hand it back and say it's correct. Sometimes I blink and say who in the world scored that. Hah, I did. Mistakes are made in the math I think more than any scoring error as far as the actual correct point given. I believe one guys scores a match. Everyone gets the same look. The line is part of the higher number. If I can not see the lower number color showing, I score the upper number for everyone. Plugs with the magnifier with a properly supported target made that pretty straight forward.Either a score keeper is honest...or one isn't. Doing groups is even tougher. But with a plug there is one look,, once the plug is removed it's a done deal. Same with groups, measure carefully 1 time, do it 8 times you will get 4 to 8 answers. My answer is....We all look at things different, I give everyone the same look. As much as you might think no big deal, it does or it doesn't. It's not that simple at times. When I have that thought I score up. On a different note Tony I am seeing good scores from you , keep it up.
