Since I started making barrels, I've tried to find the perfect solution for cleaning off the parts, removing the oil and blowing off with air to get the best clean finish. It was also important not to take the paint off of my machine.
So that being said, I tried just about everything. All different kinds of alcohol and paint thinners and acetone etc etc etc. all kinds of stuff from Lowe's and home Depot and from different suppliers on the web. Most of them stink. Pretty bad.
The absolute best elixir I finally came up with was close to 100% isopropyl alcohol used in beauty shops and nail salons and the accompanying acetone of the same. Apparently, this stuff is formulated to have almost no smell and it dries perfectly clean and quickly.
I use two parts alcohol to one part acetone. I used to order it from eBay from a nail salon supply house. I recently discovered that I could buy it at my local beauty supply and it is $25 a gallon. Which all in all that is an excellent price for what it is.
The stuff from my local Sally's beauty supply even has a slight cherry smell. Which is much better than stinking like alcohol.
I spray off with a rechargeable hand sprayer from harbor freight. That is charged using my air compressor.
