Needed to fit bottom metal on a single action (Vintage Sniper M40 rules). I was pretty nervous going into this one. I bolted the bottom metal on with some long action screws, traced it with a sharp knife, and went to town with a 5/8ths end mill. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I'm getting good at turning two handwheels at a time on the mill.

Kind of reminds me of the Etch-a-Sketch I had as a kid. Wasn't all that good with that either.
Outstanding work Aaron

Nice job man. Easier said than done

No. This is specifically for the CMP Vintage Sniper matches. Rules state that the M40 must have bottom metal, but a single shot action is acceptable. So it's just a cosmetic feature to fit the rules.
Yeah I understand. My photo is of my stock for my personal M40 for VS.

In speaking with BW at the time he told me single shots were never used and therefore it had to be a repeater and use a magazine.

Believe me, I like your way a whole lot better.

I use a fixture mounted to a rotary table to get the angles I need on the sides.

Aaron, nice job on the two wheelin'.

I used to 2-wheel barrel channels and finish with scrapers and dowel sanders.

Found it was easier and less stressful to just bite the bullet, turn the vise for each side and re-tram.

Still cleanup bedding in mag wells 2 wheelin' though.

@GenePoole - I found your setup when I was googlin around for how to do this. I have a rotary but I haven't spent much time becoming proficient with it. One day.

@AlNyhus - I'm just the guy with the round tools able to cut plant based carbohydrates and hide any mistakes with glue. The rules are pretty vague/open ended right now. I'm sure in a few years things will get more defined. Such as; guys using HV barrels with just the last two inches of the barrel tapered down to .850

So...how does a single shot receiver fly in this format?????
The match is fired prone from front sandbags all single shot with timed target exposure (20 seconds) at 300 and 600 yards. Absolutely no need for a magazine unless you want to use the rifle for other purposes.

But as Aaron said, the rules are somewhat vague and open ended. Ppl have built rifles in good faith only to be told be CMP armorers that the rifle is illegal in their interpretation of the rules.

Take for example in this category - the statement any 3-9x40 optic will be accepted…. Well this was true until CMP saw that I planned to use a Vortex Diamondback Tactical with turrets and a TMR reticle… the rules were modified then to reference an additional rule in the rulebook about reticles. Turrets I was told have to be capped but I know of instances where Leupold optics with CDS elevation are being used.

Based on other work you've shown, you have plenty enough skill to learn the rotary. Joe Pie has some good videos on setup and operation if you find yourself with some time to kill.

So there's no written rules that it must be a repeater? But it has to have repeater bottom metal?
