A flyer in every group?

I have a Sako with a Wilson barrel. It did the same. One shot out of the group was always a flyer. Not really bad but aggravating. I bed the action and torqued the actions screws, no more flyers. May have been one or the other but they are gone.

I'm going to torque the action and see the results and if no better, I'm going to skim bed it...It has factory bedding, but I had a different barrel installed and maybe the two don't match up..

By any chance are you loading a Hornady bullet from a box from 10-12 years ago? Not digging on Hornady but there was a time a number of guys said there was a flyer in every box. Once again, not a dig on Hornady, I shoot a ton of them in V-Max and ELDM variety. But since no one asked........

I hand load..
Ok. Do you shoot many different rifles? Is this an anomaly with this particular rifle?
You stated in your opening post it will shoot 1MOA that's broken up by a flier in a 5 shot group. It's not particularly difficult to get a rifle to consistently shoot 1 MOA so something is definitely odd about that. Hence the basic questions

1. Does it have a muzzle brake? Could be loose.
2. The scope might feel tight, but could be the reticle itself is shifting.
Happens once in a great while to even the best scopes.
If you have another, just mount it and run a couple rounds down range.
Doesn't need to be perfectly sighted in, as long as your on paper, you'll
see if 4 shots are close or if you still get the flyer.

Hi all, I've been trying to get my 25-06 to group....I shoot 4 shot groups and on very group I get a flyer 2 to 3 inches off....I know there is shooter error and I'm old, but the same on every group?....3 of the shots are MOA or less, but there is always one, just one flyer..It may be the first shot or the last shot....That part changes....I'm shooting the same batch of powder, H4831sc and the same batch of bullets, 110gr ELD-X....It's a browning bolt with a Shilen barrel...I had the Shilen barrel put on, because when I bought the rifle it had a Boss....Any ideas??........Thanks
What range what type of rest and bench set-up?
1./ Shoot 3 shot groups and verify parallax is eliminated and tape a strip of target above the barrel to minimize heat from barrel causing mirage
2./ Change bullet or try factory loads
3/ If problem continues -change scopes
My first guess is parallax issues.

I have changed scopes....I'm using bags off from a cement table....I started with Barnes, but no luck there...I switched to eld-x and switched powder....I loosened the action, bumped it and re-torqued at 35 pounds and I'm going to try it this afternoon

I have several rifles...I bought this with a boss years ago...Didn't like the boss....Had a Hart put on, still no luck....Locked it away for a few years...Had a Shilen put on, not much better luck....Locked it away again.....Got bored a couple weeks ago and dragged it out, thinking this rifle isn't going to beat me, but so far, it has, LOL

Ok. So then I basically agree with the others and suggest checking the basics including that the barrel is fully floating and if you have another scope then swap it out. Check your base screws while you're at it also. If none of that helps it's probably time to check bedding or your load choice.

Since it's given you trouble with more than one barrel I'd look at bedding first.
