A few things going through the shop lately.

Ts,
Nice looking rifle. Looks like the bolt has a flat cut where it is visible in the loading port. Is this correct? What did you have in mind for fluting?
Thanks, Paul

Appreciate the compliment. Yes, there is a small strip of flat surface that is visible on with the bolt in the firing position.

I'll shoot you a PM with some pictures of the bolt in and out of the rifle, as well as a photo of what I would like to have done, if you can work with the bolt.

Paul - Do you provide bolt knob installation service for the CZ 527?

Curiosity : The rifle’s bolt handle is petite as compared to Rem 700 style action, which makes it a little more challenging. If you do offer this service then how are you installing the knob: (1) grinding down the existing knob into a post/stub to thread on new knob or (2) cutting off factory knob and then drilling handle to accept threaded rod that knob will then be attached to it?

Thanks

Oso ,
If there was enough demand I would offer this service. Sadly, there just isn't. If I were to do this job, I would thread a portion of the round knob and leave a quarter of the original knob as a shoulder for the new knob to blend into. It would make for a very nice blended transition. Thanks for asking though.

I thought this might be an issue that I have encountered in past. Low volume and requiring a custom jig to hold it… thank you for thoughtful response.

I sent Paul probably a half dozen some years back. Absolutely perfect work. Some were already Cerakoted so the flutes showed up nicely.

I wish I had another bolt or two to send, but I'm fluted out right now.

The same reason we have Brett paint a stock. If for no other reason, it’s called pride of ownership. Not all of us can shoot good but we can all look like winners.
Absolutely, Speedy says these nice extras provide for the clause "If you can't shoot good you can sure look good shooting" Paul's work is First Class no doubt. Have a few pieces of his work due to WSMNUT using him for the fluting on my bolts. Great job Paul.

Paul - my second niche question. What are the chances that you are doing bolt knob installation for Howa 1500 Mini?

Thanks
Hey Oso,
When I get the next Mini in for fluting I will take a hard look at what is required to install a bolt knob. These are getting popular and I am fluting them quite often these days. The Howa bolts may be the new Remington down the line. A sad day indeed. But, the Howa's are a quality piece, no doubt. If I decide to offer this I will announce it on the forum. Thanks for asking.

I was told only the older Howa mini bolts would take threads. The newer ones have a hollow factory knob (hole in the center of the round knob) not allowing it to have a threaded stud for an aftermarket knob. I got that info from another gunsmith that install knobs on bolts.
