A & D FX-300IN calibration issue?

Hey all, I just received a new A&D FX-300IN scale and out of the box I have a couple issues.

First is, there is no unit of measurement option for grains. I have found a tutorial on that in another post here so I can figure that out. The second and most problematic issue is, it won't go into calibration mode. I have done the initialization, a few factory resets...everything, and still it won't go into CAL mode.

I called A&D tech support and waited for about 45 minutes on hold before hanging up. Then I called customer service and they told me I needed to speak to tech support so she transferred me and, after about another 25 minutes I got disconnected. Lastly, I called tech support directly again and waited for 1 hour and 8 minutes again before giving up.

After all that, I sent an email yesterday and haven't heard anything back nor, did I get a call back today.

My question, has anyone else had a scale that won't go into calibration mode and, if so, what did you do to solve the issue?

I have a A&D FX 300i, regarding the grain selection, have you pressed the mode button? it will go through a couple of weigh options, look for GN in top right corner. Regarding calibration, it does not do a auto calibration, you will need a 50g test weight and go through a manual calibration which is very simple.

This is the 300IN. It is the "legal for trade" model and since grains are not a "legal for trade" unit of measurement, it is not available on the menu.

That is relatively easy to fix but, if I can't calibrate it, that is an issue. I realize I need an calibration weight but, to use it, I need to get into calibration mode first.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Calibration requires a certified technician or something when it’s in the legal for trade mode. When you get out of that mode, you can enter calibration mode. Also you have to unscrew the back plate to get into that special mode to get out of legal for trade.

I hadn't even considered that possibility, thanks. If I ever get a hold of A&D, I'm sure they can talk me through it.

A final update. I finally got in touch with A&D and they were great. They said that this is an extremely common issue but, easily solved. It took about 20 mins on the phone so, if you have this issue, don't call and expect it to be fixed in 5 minutes.

To be quick, the user "someone online" was exactly right. Because the "N" model balances are "legal for trade", anything that isn't needed for use in a store or, can be altered to defraud someone, is locked. It takes a LOT of button manipulation to get it to a place where those restrictions are removed, and, have it work as a normal FX-i series scale.

If you have any questions, PM me and I will try to answer them.

Thanks for the shout out. I know this issue because I went through it, but I found all the documentation online and in the manual without needing to call.

I believe I found the info you are referring to but, it wouldn't work on my scale. When I contacted A & D, the first thing he had me try was the same protocol I found online and, he was a little shocked that it didn't work. He then took me through a backdoor method to remove the NTEP programming. That was successful. He had no idea why the standard method didn't work.

I appreciate your mention of things being locked though, that was the beginning point I needed.
