A&D FX-120i

Question for those of you who use the A&D FX-120i scale with the V$ autotrickler.

I have been using the RCBS Chargemaster scale for about eight years along with a Parker tuned Ohaus 10-10 balance beam scale and RCBS trickler. This is very time consuming as the Chargemaster drifts most of the time and I am anul about powder weight. It forces me to continually reset the zero on the scale. I am in a climate controlled room and the scale is powered by a battery, independent of the powerline. There is no fluorescent lighting involved.

My question is does the FX scale drift a lot or is it rock stable throughout the loading experience. I know they guarantee it to be accurate down to .001 or more. Does this hold true? The RCBS guarantees it to be accurate to .01 but this is simply not true unless you continually reset it and check it constantly.
i have the A&D and auto trickler-- I luv it!!
prior to that i used a P measure and beam scale my whole reloading life- one thing i will say is the AD is extremely sensltive- just moving my hand 6" in front of the pan will affect the reading- sometimes the auto trickler is a kernal off either way but i havent adjusted it enough yet either and anyway Id still consider that very good

Just my opinion: Darn electronic stuff can’t be trusted. I’ll never buy one. I use a tuned beam scale and a trickler. No worries.

Josh, I hope you never have to fly commercial or need surgery or any of the thousands of everyday tasks that interface with modern life. Just sayin'
Sort of like me trying to not shop at the places that I don't agree with - very very difficult to accomplish.
I suppose that using a balance beam scale is quite doable and I have one in reserve but don't cut off your nose to spite your face (favorite of my long deceased grandmother)( LOL)
No malice intended as I enjoy your knowledge on the forum - just a difference of opinion.

I hear you! I seem to fight with electronic gadgets all the time. Last week the dishwasher broke, the ice maker broke, and then the ice maker in the fridge broke! I fixed one but had to call in help for the other two. I hate that.
Reloading is my quiet time. My little island of peace where I get to control everything. I’m not letting some “electronic device “screw that up!

Got me there!

Well, people do what they like. I have no scorn for anyone doing it another way - we all have what we prefer and dislike.

I've run the little $18 Hornady digital scale, a slightly more expensive (but no more accurate) off-brand scale, and a $300 scientific strain-gauge balance; fed by a Lee Classic measure, a Hornady measure (that came with the AP progressive press), a Harrell's measure (don't recall the model designation), and a CM-1500. Usually involved throwing a charge and adjusting on the scale.

Last iteration was the CM and scientific scale, though the Lee Classic and scientific scale were a very close second (and second only because of the readjustment process when changing loads.)

I received the FX120i/V4 Autotrickler last February, and everything else either went on a closet shelf or was given to a friend.

Now, the only thing I need to address is what to do if I lose power (I figure a small car battery would run the setup for quite a while; just need to figure out the best way to keep it as a backup.) In the past, loss of power just meant I shot pistol for while (no power needed for me to load that.)

There are cheaper versions- this 330 has lasted a long time- just running the scale-
I’ve carried it to SR matches- used it 4 days
Carried it to Longrange Nationals- where it stayed on for a solid 5 days..

Electronics has been a passion since I was about 12 when I became interested in Amature Radio. In those days we built most of our equipment. All tubes , condensers and resistors. I wound up with an Extra class license and have contacted over 200 countries over the years. Then I got my first computer and could not do without on today. I use it for everything.

As for scales, When I bought that Chargemaster, I had high hopes for it only to discover that it drifted a lot. I still use it to through charges, but them I use my Scott tuned 10-10 and trickle to make sure that every charge is exactly alike. So I am going to buy the FX120 and auto trickler and hopefully it will eliminate the balance beam only using it every so often to make sure the load scale is not drifting.

I have a supply duct, not a diffuser, above my loading bench and when the furnace is in the cooling mode and the temperature of the sheet metal changes because of the cool air passing through it there is enough disturbance because of the stratification caused by the settleing of the cool air surrounding the duct that my fxi 120 with pick up the air movement. Sensitive to air movement, Yes

any scale not shielded is.

The Prometheus is no more accurate than a good powder measure, electric trickler and a magnetic force resolution scale. It is just a bit faster. All the above can be purchased for significantly less as well.
The Prometheus’s real strength is the trickler. It is genius and will drop a single kernel of powder every time, something the V series of auto-trickler will not do.
The design ( balance beam scale) is really an elegant piece of engineering .
