A completely new way to use an AutoTrickler V3

I'm pretty sure I love Adam's AutoTrickler V3 as much as most of you but I always thought "I'd love this even more if I never had to handle a powder cup". So I came up with a way to raise the entire system ABOVE my press where it functions perfectly, I can monitor it with a remote camera and all I do is release the powder into my funnel. This was a labor of love and while I realize for most it's going to elicit some interesting comments let me stop some of them by saying yes I have too much time on my hands. Enjoy...

I forgot to mention that I could easily set this system up to drop straight into a funnel that was on a loading block if I wanted to use an arbor press.

Love it!

Did all that hanging from the scale cause much difficulty for calibrating the scale? It looks like it would vibrate at a really low frequency and potentially be sensitive to drafts in the room or even noise? Is it a rigid connection or does it pivot?

Thank you.
I haven’t had any issues calibrating now but I certainly did as I was making different version of this. You have to ensure that whatever you hang hang below is as rigid as possible. Here’s a pic of one of my iterations. You’ll see the hurricane straps. They vibrated like a mother trucker on a high frequency basis and really messes with stuff. Once I started down the path of a rigid basket that all went away.

Pretty cool.

Your press ram drop is going to be a bit tricky to do without throwing off the weight but I have an idea of how you can do it with a pulley, three pieces of string/thread, a few knots and maybe a weight or a spring.

I’ve been working on several systems that don’t impact the weighing but I’m always game for more!!

It's a crappy drawing but on the right a thread goes down to the funnel plug, on the left a thread goes down to the press arm. In the middle is a pulley with a third thread, possibly wrapped around the pulley once or a few times. The pulley, left and right threads are attached at the top, to the base that holds the scale. Knots are used to keep the threads from moving relative to each other. Weights may be added at the ends of the third thread to make it hang consistently.

The lengths of the various threads can let you limit the movement so the funnel plug resets reliably and the thread hangs exactly the same way when the funnel is plugged.

Some of that thread weight is going to be part of your zero measurement but if it always hangs the same way, it won't vary much from one charge to the next. Luckily thread is pretty light so a small variation on a small weight.

You didn't have to handle a pan, but you did have to:
1.put a case in the press,
2.raise the ram,
3.plug the funnel,
4.remove the funnel plug,
5.lower the ram,
6.repeat

Other wise, you would:
1.place a pan on the scale,
2.pick up the charged pan
3.dump powder into funnel setting on a case while in a rack
4.move funnel to next case
5.repeat

You added all this complexity, with potential issues, for 1 additional step, and it's still not a Prometheus.
Are you a late generation Engineer by any chance?

Take the press out of your charging operation

Yep you’re totally right and there’s every chance I’ll tear it apart and revert to the way it’s normally used. However I have the time and money to waste and like any good mountain climber would tell you, I did it because it was there for the challenge and I thought it may inspire others. Most people don’t know the scale is capable of doing such a thing in the first place so why not have some fun with it. And no I don’t believe I’m a late generation engineer, just a tinkerer.
