hi guys i have been getting out a little over the last couple of months and have been using this 17 fireball I had the gunsmith build.
the rifle started out as a tikka m 595 in 222 which was very accurate and had lots of life left in it..... but fancied something different.
so a lad off one of the forums here in England offered me a stainless shilen 1 in 10 twist sporter profile barrel. at a good price. and I took it up to my local gunsmith who chambered it in 17 fireball.
it was screw cut m14x1 with invisible thread cap. and had the barrel finished at 23 inches. the load i am using is Remington 7and 1/2 primer, h322 powder and 20 grain v max. which gives around 1/2 groups and fps speeds of 4033 average over chrono.
I haven't messed about any more with loads as i just wanted to get it zeroed and out shooting.
have topped it off with a zeiss conquest 6x20x50 scope and a ase moderator. and so far i have been very happy with its performance on rabbits and foxes.
the little 20 v max is superb and have found very rarely exits on the foxes. which is what I need on some of the ground I shoot on.
when the weather is ideal I will try some 25 Berger match bullets a friend has given me to try. i would love to shoot the 25 v max but with the 1 in 10 twist I don't think they will be very good. as a 9 twist is better suited for those.
any way here are a couple of pictures of rifle and a couple of outings
