A 6BRA build- couple of questions

1.I plan to build a 6BRA rifle in the US and get it exported to me.
2. I do not know anybody in the 4k miles radius who shoots 6BRA.
3. I have a couple of questions of a newbie:

- My starting point is 6br lapua brass. Do I have to fireform it or can I size it to 6bra spec with an FL die?
- can I shoot 6br case in 6bra chamber during a competition? People report doing this. Does it make any sense?
- what die set would you recommend?

I was focusin previously on dasher. In terms of wind buckling potential is there a huge difference between those two?

Others with more experience than me will chime in too but in my experience,
  • Lapua 6 BR brass will need to be fireformed to your chamber. Shoulder needs to be "blown out" to the AI angle. may take two firings to get it fully formed.
  • The results I got while fireforming would not have held me back in a match good velocity and great groups. Don't waste barrel life just shooting into a berm to blow out the shoulders.
  • I am using the Whidden Dies and they work for my purposes
  • Dasher will get you a bit more FPS but I have not been held back with BRA velocities. When you run a ballistic calculator the difference may get lost in the noise depending on what you plan to shoot.

While I prefer to have brass hydro-formed by DJ's Brass, I doubt that option is open to you due to export rules. That said, yes, you can fire-form 6BR brass to 6BRA easily WITHOUT (most likely) having to size to 6BRA spec. Depending on powder (your choices are different from here in US) just load a known safe butt maximum 6BR load and shoot a match.
****EDIT**** Thinking about what I answered and the trend for tight neck BRA. I want to clarify that if your chamber will be tighter than .271 you will need to turn necks on the 6BR brass BEFORE you fire-form.
You'll have formed brass and (at that point) need a good 6BRA FL sizer die such as Whidden. I prefer their click-adjustable FL die doe to ease of setting desired shoulder set back. As for seating die you can use any of the 6 Dasher seating dies available to you (which you likely already have).
Not sure what your barrel length and chamber specs will be but don't worry over what is an insignificant velocity difference. IF you lose anything you will more than gain it in longer barrel life from the BRA.

A 6br case fit perfectly in My bra chamber. I fire formed while shooting a match. Since my powder load was a test in progress i didn't win but i was in the middle of the pack.
30.6 varget with 105 bullets, cci 450 primer

I fire formed mine, and those loads shot really well even though I used a non Standard powder(4007ssc)
My brass was a bit short of spec so I did the false shoulder method along with some bullet jam.

6BRA is so cute compared to my other Remington red headed step child refugee cartridges.
