A-50 VS A-36.NRA

Couple weeks ago my son needed some A-50 to shoot an online so he had to run over to the club. While I was up at The X Count I just bought a package to go along with the handful he had left. While I was up their they had a box of outdated A-36they sold me for cheap. For the life of me I can't find much in the way of difference. John goes through targets like most people do toilet paper. Do you all think it would be ok to use the A36 right now as he is doing ammo trials and working on different gun adjustments. That way when he is set up and dialing it in he can used the preferred targets. What do you think.

A-50 is a 50 meter target and there is no A36 in the rulebook

I guess the A36 is a version or a synonym of the USA-50 50 foot official target?

edit - for sure a36 was 50' target, replaced by usas-50
yet to find details online of actual differences if any.
Maybe essentially the same target but specified in inches rather than mm?

From what I can find the a-36 was used prior to 2009. The new A-50 is a measured down form of the 50m target. But dang they are close. Do you think it would be ok for ammo testing and general gun break in.

Absolutely, at worst he gets a slightly wrong idea of what scores he would be shooting on the 'correct' target.

A-36 is 2mm bigger (0.08" bigger).

A-50 is 33.38mm ( 1.314" )

A-36 is 35.38mm ( 1.393" )

So the A-36 target is 6 % bigger.

Add 6 % extra distance to the target and everything will be even !

Instead of shooting from 50" feet,.. shoot from 53'

Instead of 25' feet, shoot from 26.5' feet... etc.

Thanks that will help a lot. We are not looking at scores right now. It's more about what works well with the gun. We haven't found the right ammo yet. Eley black works well as long as it's warm, but when you can see your breath it's not as tight. SK is not as tight as Eley black but stays consistent in temp drops. Temp is the best for cooler, but I don't think many ranges will be that cold. So I think the 36 will work for wat we are doing. Now when he starts real practice it will be the a-50 only. He just made nationals at CMP so he is doing more air rifle. Come spring break and end of school year pretty much plan on twice a day working with his guns. Got a lot if shooting to get done this summer.

Thanks guys, you always know the answer.
