9mm Range Brass is it worth the effort?

Good advice. After reviewing approximately 100 cases with my trusty Harbor Freight super-duper magnifying headset, I found only three crimped cases, which were WMA headstamped but did not have the NATO circle and cross.. The headstamps that I thought were crimped upon closer inspection are not crimped.

Thanks.
Is this the headset you are talking about? I did not know HF had these, Are they any good? I have a few sets of opti-visors which I use all the time, But that built in light makes me want to get these HF ones if they are worthy?

Yeah they are worth it.

They are so cheap.freeeeee. Or even once fired bulk stuff of internet
Just kull the off ones.you can load pistol brass so many times it makes it very much worth it.just use common sense

About 1/2 of WIN 9mm is crimped. So unless you visually sort, then toss them.

OR, I run all brass through my LEE APP press to size. Then they go back through to swage the primer pockets. I don't sort for anything other than steel. I have a case feeder and the Lee APP can crank out the brass as fast as your case feeder can keep up.

Plus I cast my own bullets so o cost there either. Lead is free. Scrap brass pays for powder and primers. I just have time in most ALL of my reloading stuff. This is the first year in 25 years I had to dip into my own actual money. And That was because I wanted a certain gun and did not have enough brass to pay for it.

It is worth reloading if you have time. I have all the time in the world.

My brother had the exclusive on picking up 223 and 9mm fired brass at the GC he belonged to. I will just say he got that because of ties to a couple Fed LEO agencies he did work for on the side. He was a Master Machinist and Tool&Die Maker who could fashion parts they had trouble sourcing elsewhere.
They would notify him when they would be qualifying at the range. He only picked up commercial brass.
He cast all of his pistol and Sharps rifle bullets. I was able until the Biden era to buy all the old WW I wanted for 25-cents a pound. We traded brass for WW ingots. My last WW haul was a little over 3500 pounds. My Dodge 3/4-ton was squatting like a dog trying to pass a Peach Seed!
He passed away two years ago, and I have all of his firearms, plus about 800lbs of cast, sized, and lubed pistol bullets plus a couple hundred pounds of 45 and 50 caliber rifle bullets.

So, in a round-about way, unless I was desperate; I would only bother with commercial if I were you. Military; you are working for about $2 an hour processing them.

Yes, this is what I have. I really like them, they are inexpensive and work really well. The built-in light is very good, but not fantastic. Multiple lenses that can be used singly or in combination for different magnification. I use them so frequently for tedious task that I have several sets one at the loading bench, one at the gun maintenance area, one in the toy box, you get the idea..

Buy yourself, a Glock Model 34, 5" Marksman Barrel,.. handload some, 124 gr. Hornadys, put a Timney trigger in it with, a Holsun 507 on Top and you'll start to,.. Hit stuff !
TRUST Me ! ( Especially IF,.. poor Eyesight / Trigger Flinch,.. once in a while ! )
ONLY, very Accurate Pistols, ARE, interesting !!
Or just buy a Sig 226 or a 229 and just shoot it.......

My opinion on range brass, or any brass, is when it is handloaded. It becomes the best, most reliable piece of ammo obtainable for my gun. Because I am personally responsible for every process that makes it a new cartridge. When I pull the trigger, I'm looking for peace of mind.

I’m with Josh, I kinda enjoy loading it between the times I’m not loading for the rifles.
Yup! I was feeling kinda guilty about taking it easy with the 9s so I loaded a 223 test.
It’s for a Tikka that’s been giving me problems. I left the set of dies I usually use in Texas because I have another set of Redding bushing dies out here. Spent the time carefully measuring and setting the shoulder back on some LC brass to fit the chamber. I “assumed” the .245 bushing in the die was correct and primed all 50 cases. I then loaded sets of five in increasing powder charges, weighing and trickling each load to the kernel. I put the first case in the press to load a bullet, dropped the handle and felt NO resistance. WTH! 10 minutes of measuring and I found out I needed a .243 bushing.
Call me stupid! 15 minutes of searching and I don’t have a .243 bushing here. It must be in Texas! Then I spent 15 minutes trying to remember what brass I used the .245 bushing on. Gave up, dumped the powder, ordered a bushing online and looked at my watch. 2 hours wasted! I tucked my tail and loaded some 44 magnum.

When I decided to buy a 9mm Luger, it was just before the 2016 election. Fearing the debacle of the Obamanation years and the scarcity of components if Hilllary won, I began collecting 9mm brass. I bought a Lee carbide 4 die set and began processing the pickup brass from the range. You know, when people leave their fired brass on the ground, they also leave the empty boxes. By the time I finally got around to deciding which gun I wanted, Sig P226, I had a few thousand rounds of brass prepped and ready to load. A shop close by had bulk 115 gr. copper plated round nose at $35/500. You can load 1000 rounds on a pound of powder.
Not bragging here, but 50 rounds in a factory box, that looks better than new impresses people.
